Hi,

just returned for a mooch around the fields, George (My son aged 11) is on holiday, so asked to come.Got over a fence and a rabbit was squat about 35m from the fence line, kept the beam on it and made the approach with Oscar into the wind, well about 15m away the rabbit bolted so I slipped the lurcher.Oscar ran down the beam like a good un, and turned the rabbit , he made a strike and missed, the rabbit then ran up a muddy slope with Oscar in a very fast closing pursuit, the rabbit turned just before a fenceline and Oscar made the successful strike.

Ok this is only one rabbit, buts its Georges 1st and he was chuffed to bits.So am I for him, think most of us can remember our first few hunting trips with our grandfathers or fathers, I can. All 3 of us got covered in mud and soaked, but it was worth every second.I,m more than happy for George to be introduced to hunting.I think its a valuble lesson for all of us to know how we obtain protein from whatever source. The rabbit will be consumed on thursday, and is very tasty for those who have not tried it with almost zero % fat content, the ultimate organic meat.Overall a good , quick night out in local fields, job well done.Saw a few charlie, but they will be pursued later within the rules of the ban. Oscar, seems to be going from strength to strength, lets hope theres alot more productive hunting trips to come. The flash blinded George, he was happy !! Though you would,nt tell by this picture.

Well done George, make sure you Dad shows you how to skin them! God I remember the calamities I got up to when I first tried to do it, thankfully my Dad arrived just in time! :- "
