Hi
My name is Alan I have a beautiful black long haired German Shepherd puppy (8 months) who yesterday twisted his back right leg chasing a squirrel. He seemed fine at first but after a short rest hasn't put it down since. The vet believes it to be a suspected torn cruciate ligament and will be doing x-rays. The dog is insured. I guess I am very worried that this might have happened at such an early age and I am looking for anyone to placate or intensify my fears. The reason I put north London is that I wanted to know if £400 sounds about right for 5 x-rays under general anaesthetic and if anyone local knew of a German Shepherd leaning vet rather than all the cattish vets that surround me and I am currently signed to. Oh and one that is happy to deal with my insurance companies wallet rather than mine. I am insured through Argos...after extensive googlisation.
Thanks to all or any that help me in this, I wish you all waggy tails.

Kind Regards

Alan and Seren.

Hi my beagle ruptured his left cruciate ligament last year, his initial x-rays, sedation etc was £300 (I live in a rural area of Scotland) so I would expect £400 to be about right in London and your dog is much bigger than my beagle.

Most vets will not deal directly with insurance companies in case for any reason they will not pay out, the vet needs their money. I had to pay £2500 upfront to the referral centre Murphy had surgery at before I got my dog back, I then had to claim it back from insurance company.

I cant help you with finding a new vet I'm afraid.

I hope your boy gets fixed and back to normal soon, It was a long (and expensive!) journey for us last year 16 weeks cage rest and then a strict exercise schedule for 12 weeks BUT totally worth it now I see my boy tanking around the woods chasing bunnies, he is 100% again.

You may be lucky and it may not be a total rupture it may heal with rest, fingers crossed for your boy :luck:

This is my murphys leg now
