Hi, I've been looking at making golden paste for Roxy who has skin allergies and is nearly
9 (sounds so old, my baby!). Just wondering if anyone has made it before? I stupidly thought that you could use normal ground turmeric from the shop but after looking up recipes obviously to make a batch you need a lot and those ground turmeric jars are tiny! I've been looking on Amazon for organic powder, is there a Turmeric powder that's better for dogs?

I've made it in the past - not that I noticed any effect on Jasper. Mind you, I can't remember what I was hoping to achieve...

Anyhoo, from what I remember, you should use organic turmeric but I'm not sure any brand is better than another. There's a company that sell it ready-made for dogs which might work out cheaper as they can buy in bulk. I'll go look... Ah, here we are: Golden Paste

I made it, Timber was struggling to get over an elbow injury and had been on metacalm for too long. It might have been coincidence but after a week or two on golden paste he was better - of course he might have been on the point of recovery anyway.

I used this recipe, The World Famous Recipe

I may have halved the amounts, I can't really remember.

Lots of supermarkets sell ground turmeric in larger bags as well as the small spice jars.
It’s really easy to make. I use a similar recipe to @JoanneF (I use coconut oil) There are lots of videos online which show how to make it – most suggest organic turmeric .

I should have said, I froze it in an ice cube tray and took out a cube at a time.

And it made a lovely marinade for prawns.

You can use just ordinary turmeric powder and even if those 'normal' spice jars seem to be small. Once you make the paste, the powder will swell up during the heating with other ingredients and you will still end up quite a decent quantity. Taking account that paste will only last in fridge at maximum of two weeks or less before going off AND that your dog being small breed, it will only need small amount of it per day...your small cupful of paste is quite likely going to be enough for the dog for its fridge storage life. You can freeze the stuff though if you do make too much at one go.
And of course if you buy it in larger quantity..it will be cheaper in the long run.
