Did I mention George is a chewer? OH's reading glasses have fallen victim to Georges jaws and the corner of my bird spotting book has been nibbled.. It seems a bit of SA because he only seems to do it when we leave the room or in the case of the glasses OH fell asleep and only woke because of the crunching noise!
OH has fitted a waist height sliding door to the kitchen so that George and Murphy can be kept apart during feeding because Grorge inhales food rather than chewing it and to keep him and myself safe while Im cooking. George used to get human food so he thinks cooking time means he is going to get fed too.

One great thing about having a dog that is so food motivated is training. I dug out my clicker and within minutes George had caught on that the click means food.... Now hes doing sit, leave it (very handy) and here..

As regards his pedigree (or lack of) we have decided he is beagle-ish ie there is most likely a beagle in there somewhere but there could be any number of other scent hound DNA mixed in as well.

We are slowly re-intorducing toys to the two starting on neutral ground, then the garden then eventually into the house. In the meantime they play together really well if a bit madly.

Oh and my email pinged last week , its was the beagle people asking if I was availabe for a home check the following day.. I replied and said sorry but as you never replied to any of my emails I assumed you did not consider me suitable and I have adopted elsewhere..
I got a snotty reply saying 'well we are volunteers with real jobs as well, and we dont know anything about any emails you previously sent. But if you ever want to adopt you know where we are..'

I am happy with George but sad for the beagle that never will be ours. Sad, not because we couldnt offer a good home or couldnt afford the cost of another dog or were not prepared to make time for another dog because we were..Im sad because the people who claim they are there for these dogs are the one who have let them down. The people who say they want the best for these dogs seem too busy to find them the homes they claim to need.

Its been just over a month now and I have to say George is making great progress. He no longer thinks that every trip we make to the kitchen means food for him he no longer bothers us if we are eating in fact he just lays on his bed or in the chair and ignores us. He has learned to put down sticks, bottle caps, bits of card etc when asked but not yet given up trying.. He is enjoying one off lead run per day at a safe fenced in area and at ;least one walk a day on the long line so that he can sniff to his hearts content.
He plays with Murphy and loves to chase its fun just watching them. They do disgusting things like licking each others teeth ! But as long as they are happy I suppose its ok..

He's learning a lot but I know there is still a long way to go but so far this has been the best Ive ever seen.

The major hurdle is S.A last night I had to go to the A&E and George cried until he had a little snot bubble on his nose.
My daughter said the idea that mum and dad had gone was just too much for him.
