I was rootling about in the attic a few weeks back (as you do :) ) and came across some yarn that was the last my mother handspun - she died about 5 years ago now. Decided that the best thing to do with it would be to knit Grace a jumper, my mother had adored her whippet Moona that she had many years ago and would have loved Grace. It is spun from Jacob's fleece, which is why it is stripey, and is lovely and thick and warm. A nice reminder of my ma.

That's lovely :D What pattern did you use, or is it a one-off of your own design?

Awwww, that's lovely. And it really suits Grace

That is a really gorgeous jumper. Just the right colour for Gracie too.  What a lovely reminder of your Mum. :huggles:

It is a very simple pattern that I found on the web somewhere:

WHIPPET JUMPER

Double knitting wool. Approx 6oz yarn, size 4 mm needles.

(For large whippet/greyhound use chunky wool and larger needles.)

Cast on 76 stitches K1 P1 ribbing for 2 inches

Then stocking stitch to 18 inches including the ribbing

Decrease 1 stitch each side each knit row, to 56 stitches, then work in ribbing K1 P1 for 5 inches which makes collar

Underpiece - Cast on 30 stitches and work in ribbing K1 P1 for 4 inches increase evenly to 36 stitches and still ribbing continue until 9 inches.

Decrease 1 stitch beginning and end of each row to 1 stitch. Cast off

Sew together leaving a hole on either side for whippets front legs to go through

Collar folds back like a turtle neck sweater.

What a lovely jumper.......its suit her perfectly

That jumper really suits her.

I must post a photo of Fred who wears the jumper you knitted every day. It's perfect!

I think the jumper knitted from your mum's wool is lovely  ....but I just wanted to show everyone what nice jumpers you knit with the above photo. It wasn't made to measure, as I bought one you had already knitted, which I thought would be more or less the right size. I love it!

What a nice find, you couldn't have got a better colour for her

That jumper is lovely and colour co-ordinated with your whippy!

Thanks Nicola, lovely to see Fred in his jumper! It really suits him, doesn't it? And just what he needs in the snow.

What a lovely jumper you have made for Grace, she really suits it

Superb!

Thank you for the pattern

Now I do not feel so bad about finally parting with my much loved and once expensive (but very worn) Soay wool cardi.

I will have to root around in the attic for knitting needles now
