I came across this website yesterday and it broke my heart. I didn't know half of this stuff went on.

If you couldn't manage the "How Could You" poem, you probably won't manage these.

I just want to say a big thank you to Wolfhound for rescuing Tiny and to Whitelodge for rescuing Max, and to all the other rescues doing great work. I don't know how you do it.... I couldn't :huggles:

Greyhound Muses

I just wanted to share this with you, and I am definitely NOT having a go at anyone on this site because I know you all love your greyhounds

Sorry - forgot to add, the poem I read was called Mel the Needle Man

i hate to see such beautiful gentle creatures like greys being made victims of mans greed and inhumanity.i too hope one day racing for money will be a sport of the past like dog fighting. :(

I did say have some tissues handy! - I cried for ages! I wish greyhound racing could be more like whippet racing. My boys love running and racing each other but it's just everything else that goes with it.

This is Max's story: As a racer he had his ears pulled - don't know for what purpose, but now they are super sensitive and damaged. He was given steroids to build up his muscle bulk and had tennis balls thrown at him to make him run faster - so now he is terrified of all balls.

When his career was over after he was badly injured, he was given to a family who abused him, hit him, starved him and burned him with cigarettes.

He got lucky and was rescued and removed from the area and moved to another county. When I got him he was still thin, covered in burns (which have now healed) and had no idea how to play.

Now he is more or less normal weight, although his weight drops very quickly. He can play with soft toys and has learned how to bark. He loves running and going for long walks and is a big puppy (helped by Tiny). The only sad thing is he is soooo grateful for anything you give him - cuddles, food etc and always says thank you after every meal.

All I've got left to deal with now is his fear of people smelling of cigarette smoke and his nightmares, but we are getting there and he is an amazing boy!

many greyhounds are ear sensitive after finishing their racing career ...its because they have the tattoo on their ears checked before every race

What a site. Definately need the tissues before taking a look at it. :(

checked out the site and was very upset ,this sort of thing goes on and on ,its such a shame for these poor dogs but their are breeders that just keep breeding and dont give a damn what or where their dogs go it makes me feel sick to my stomach i hope the bast**** rott in hell

there are so many good breeders out there but this is a massive problem and the only ones who suffer is the poor dogs

:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I can't bear to read it all. So heartbreaking.

dont agree with the comment about greyhounds being ear sensitive because their ears get checked before they race,we have 3 greyhounds who love nothing more than having their ears played with-not in the least bit sensitive.
