Hello, I have just posted this on the ZigZag Website on behalf of Charles.
Last night our kennels suffered a devastating fire in the main block, which claimed the lives over 30 of our adult dogs and bitches, together with 3 litters of pups.
A heat lamp set light to the bedding in one of our whelping kennels, a roof caught fire and spread along the roofing felt causing tremendous heat and smoke.
Everyone at home and at the kennels coped wonderfully and several dogs were saved before it became impossible to work without breathing apparatus. The fire-fighters arrived and rescued several more before it became too dangerous as the roof collapsed. A team of local vets worked magnificently late into the evening to attend to those affected by smoke or shock.
I offer my sincere gratitude to all my staff, all my family, my neighbour, the firefighters and the vets for their tremendous help throughout the evening.
I felt particularly helpless as it took me 40 minutes to arrive home, too late to help at the most vital part.
The need to care for the survivors and all the other dogs has been priority throughout the day. The many kind messages have been gratefully received and I will be pleased to respond to everyone as soon as possible. Staff are shocked and devastated and finding it very difficult at present, but taking one day at a time will come through.
Sadly one of the litters was from my bitch, Smooth Moss who had just had a small litter. Mother and pup were both lost. Everyone is in terrible shock.

How tragic :'(
I saw this posted on his site last night as we are still waiting to see which litters were affected.
This is a terrible tradegy to an extremely nice well mannered breeder (there's not many in greyhound breeding!) who spoke highly of his pups and is in it for the welfare and high standards first and foremost. I hope he carries on at Zig Zag. We have been watching the kennels from the start and only just recently decided to buy a pup from him.
My thoughts also go to the dedicated staff at the kennels :thumbsup:

I have now been able to contact the people most directly involved with those lost. I am very sorry that so many of you who knew some of these dogs and bitches learn the devastating news in this way, but I wanted everyone to know as soon as possible all those that had survived.
We lost stud dogs Jamaican Hero, Droopys Honcho, Seskin Robert and Zigzag Pusher.
We lost brood bitches Yasmin Jade, Droopys Abbey, Zigzag Starguest, Sports Hiskey, Zigzag Last, Go Ahead Atlantic, Smooth Moss, Aero Panther, True Magna, Zigzag Queen, Zigzag Oz, Zigzag Keegan, Knockanore Band, Dopeys Fantasy.
Also lost were saplings and three litters of young pups.
We are all completely overwhelmed by the hundreds of messages of sympathy and support. Such kindness makes an enormous difference and we thank you all.

I feel so sorry for the Zigzag kennels and to all who are connected ........RIP to all of the dogs who also lost their lives, and the babies that never got to see much of life .......Very sad .......
