I know I have not been on this board in a while, but I thought of it immediately when what seems to be a tatooed smooth-coated Hancock Lurcher (blue) has turned up in a pound in Ireland.

Ordinarily I mainly save greyhounds, but I have to make a fast decision in the next few hours to take this dog in or not. It occurred to me that people on this board might be interested in him. Please email me if you might be interested in him and maybe I can find a way to help this boy and then get him to a new owner...

Such a shame that mate, but it seems to be the same over here in england there are lots of hancock lurchers in rescue centres all over the country waiting for new homes. If David Hancock stopped selling some of his pups to idoits then the problem would be a little better.

Hope the finds a home soon.

having just read all about hancock lurchers i am horrified,as i am about to buy one,and really feel that i dont deserve to be labelled an idiot! having just gone through a year of trying to repair my beautiful furry babies health,at enormous cost and heartache, and all to no avail,as she had to be put to sleep, due to kidney failure caused by an enormous blood clot,i approached our local animal recue, where it appears you havent a hope in hell of getting the dog you want,if you go out to work.Next I looked on the rescue internet sites, and rang a couple of people who were not at all friendly, and promptly told me the dogs had long since been homed,as the websites are not updated very often. In sheer desperation,I rang Mr Hancock, who seems to be very nice, but as a passionate animal lover and anti cruelty to anything person,I am now upset over reading the forums.Somebody please advise me what to do as this is causing me more heartache.kind regards catty

catty, I'm sure you will get loads of advice and most of it will be conflicting!

listen to what people say but make your own mind up, the lurcher lot are passionate about their dogs and have strong views which they make very clear and they will often argue long into the night, they make us italian greyhound and whippet people sound boring!!

:luck:

I am so sorry you lost your baby, it sounds so traumatic. I also know how hard it is to get a lurcher from many rescue centres. However I really wouldn't recommend going to David Hancock. He breeds many many litters a year and disposes of those puppies he can't sell. Many of his puppies turn into lovely dogs however many don't. They recieve no early socialisation so can be very nervy. The temperaments of the bitches aren't tested as they are just used as brood bitches so the puppy you will get will be a bit of an unknown quantity. However, I have seen some truely fantastic dogs that were bred by him.

If you get hold of a paper called the Countryman's Weekly you will find that there are lots of litters advertised in the back and then at least you have a chance of finding a home reared one.

Here's a link to the CMW website look here

Also try Sheya rescue, Julie has a very sensible rehoming policy.

Sheya

I know she has a nice boy in at the moment :) .

hi

Please ring me!

We have used a hancock dog as a sire for our beautiful lurcher jenny. She produced 6 puppies all of which were re homed.

He runs a large breeding farm, and has done for 30 years. he is v knowlegable about the type of lurcher he breeds ie collie/crosses. He and his daughter were friendly and approachable. The dogs are well fed although i doubt if they are ever taken out!

If you are interteted in a puppy, we have a week old litter. 4 bitches and 2 dogs.

deerhound/greyhound x jenny.

please look at our website www.kford-hounds.co.uk

I am in all day today 01384 482950.....I can send you some pics of the litter if you give me your e mail address

I've met several Hancock lurchers and they were all nice dogs.

However if you don't want to buy a pup from someone who breeds as many dogs as he does then get one from a rescue organisation. Try this board as a starting place to get a lurcher pup from Lurcher link. Last Christmas there was 4-5 litters of lurcher pups looking for homes on here.

Ooo those beautiful black and white boys. I agree they are lovely.
