Good evening all, does anyone have any recommendations to fix 'happy tail syndrome'? The end of Rubys tail started bleeding over a week ago. It, dries up but then she keeps knocking it and I'm finding blood splats up the walls. It doesnt seem to be bothering her, but the scab looks to be getting bigger

Get a plastic hair curler and slip it over the injured part, padding with something soft and permeable like lint if necessary but it has to be something that lets air get to the wound. . Secure with something like Vetwrap, which peels off hair easily. Be aware that when the wound gets to almost-better, it itches like blazes under the scab, so have something like aloe vera gel to put on it.

Hmm im not sure she'd keep a curler on i took her to the groomers today and she got so excited she wagged her tail to such extreme when i collected her it split and sprayed my hand and jeans with blood . Ive just dawbedcsome sudocreme on the end of it, distracted her with treats and got her to sleep tucked ip. Fingers crossed it helps, most distressing!

Have you got any syptic powder ....i bought a pot in case i ever cut my dogs nails too short ...it stops bleeding quickly ...have you spoken to your vet about this ...my friend had exactly the same problem and after a year her vet advised to Dock his tail .....i hope you find a solution. ...

No, but i will have a look at that, thank you. I've not contacted the vet as yet because it only happened a week ago, I'm trying to limit excitement in confined spaces. I'll be devastated if she has to have her tail operated on

I am in the same situation with Cooper, the tip of his tail is bright red and sore. I have tried putting a bandage on it and using a cone but he can still reach the bandage and pull it off. I am going to try the styptic powder. I just cant see how it is going to heal If anyone has any other ideas please let me know as I really don't want him to lose part of his tail.

This probably won't help, but someone I work with has this problem with her dog. She tried all sorts and told me she was talking to a friend of hers who has horses and uses "some blue spray" on any small cuts or grazes they pick up and suggested she tried it on her dog. She did, and it helped heal the wound on the dog's tail. I have no idea what this spray is, and I'm not sure I'd be persuaded to use a horse treatment on my dog without speaking to a vet, but it might be something to investigate.
