A little while ago I enquired about racing my two whippets and was looking forward to joining the group at Harvel this season. Unfortunately I have had one or two issues with recall - they are generally quite good but one in particular thinks nothing of running 200 yards to where he knows rabbits are. Obviously, for their safety, I need to address this and have just started a new training programme. For the time being therefore I need to put the racing on hold. I very much hope to join you later in the season.

Best wishes for a good season,

Kathy

Thanks for the note. Most of us have experienced recall problems some time or another, and for some of us the problems are sort of ongoing. Racing though is secure -the dogs have to be kept on a lead in between races, and if they do not come back after a race they cannot go too far becauuse the gate closed, and they are usually exhausted. Moreover 'racing' becomes a real discipline for the dogs and the owners!

Thank you Mike. It is nice to know that I am not the only one - but I would just love to go for a walk knowing that they are not going to go deaf on me at some point. I am sure that the racing is safe and also would be good for the dogs. It is just that I am really going back to basics for a couple of weeks and thought it would be best not to introduce something new during this process. If all goes well I hope to join you in about a months time.
