Kirislin was evacuating very late last night. She hasn't been on line since evacuating. If anyone hears from her please let us know.
Take care all of you that live in affected areas. :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Karen
Kirislin is safe in Healesville. :)

Sarsanet:

The most well known Victorian breeders of a large terrier breed had to run. They crammed as many dogs as they could in their dog trailer & had to leave the others behind in their kennels. On the road the fire overtook them. They jumped out of the car & ran for their lives into a field that already burned. The fire engulfed the car & trailer & they had to listen to their dogs' screams as they were incinerated. They also lost their house & the other dogs left behind.
If it was the Oldiron Airedales you were thinking of, they are safe Sarsanet but they are the only things their owners saved. It was the Parks' GSPs that died in the trailer. The Victorian Canine Association are publishing information on the status of breeders in the area as it comes to hand.

Link for the latest PDF is here. I pray the news on the Dobermann folk is good.

RIP the Davey family. :(
Yes, you are quite right, my informant got her wires crossed. So dreadful for the Parks but relief for the Sorraghans.

We are still okay in Emerald for now but the Byerley boys & I live close to each other in a heavily wooded area so it's a case of staying alert all the time & hoping the wind direction doesn't change.

Gail.

Stay safe Gail.

Get out early. Take your dogs, your irreplaceables and run. Property can be replaced.

I left my home in the Canberra bushfires and wondered if it had survived. Next time I'll be leaving even earlier.

I am here, I am safe, thankyou for keeping me in your thoughts everyone. Tracy, I got your message!!!! thankyou!! I've posted some pics on DOL. I will post a link to them here rather than post them again. I hope that is OK.

I am glad Gail is OK but I dont think it is all over just yet. That's a terrible story about the poor dogs being burnt to death. The suffering that people and animals have gone through is just too much to bear. I know they've just upgraded the warnings to Healesville but I dont think I am in danger for now, although I will be watching carefully and I'm not going to hang around if I feel scared.

Oh sh!t, I've just heard Badger creek has fires now, that's behind me. I better go for a drive and check it out.

Marysville was the most beautiful little town, old buildings, quaint little cottages with lovely gardens, massive old trees of the kind we dont see here, I dont even know the names of them but they were magnificent, all gone now, the town just doens't exist anymore. I dont think they've completed a full search of all the houses for injured and deceased. I had a friend there and I fear she is gone.

Gail if you feel afraid get out and go to a relief centre, you can even come to the one here. Dont take a risk and get trapped there.

Linda xx

Hey, Linda glad to hear you are well. Our thoughts are with you.

It is so heartbreaking, I cannot believe that Narbethong and Merrysvile are gone. Friends had a weekender there and we were thinking of getting a house there. At least i have managed to find today that my friends living in some of the worst affected areas are fine, both also still have their houses.

Please, take care and log in to let us know if you get a chance. :huggles:

Linda, I am just so pleased to see you back online safe and well. I sensed how frigthened you were on Saturday night, which is why I stayed on line until you left for safety. I can't even begin to imagine what you have gone through. The last few days have just been beyond belief.

Karen

After few cooler days, this morning I woke up to the news that Healsville is under threat again.

there was high excitement and frenzy here a couple of hours ago, the fire has burnt down to the very outskirts of the Northern end of town and the brave firies hit it with everything they had. Helicopters were buzzing over my house like mozzies, I took a few pics of Elvis flying over my house

thankfully it's settled a bit now and the urgent threat has been once again down graded to an alert. I do wonder when this will all end.

I hope Gail K stays safe too.

Heard this on the news this morning Linda. I hope all the back burning helps lessen the threat to your area.

If it heats up again next week and the wind is up and unfavourable just don't stick around.

All the backburning in the world wont do a thing if the weather is anything like last weekend.

Stay safe

Graeme and Gail

1831 homes destroyed

7000 people homeless

:( :( :(

I know I have cross posted this request for donations on another thread and forum, but it is a worthy cause.

The Vet Practice Bushfire Relief Effort is calling for donations. They have been providing FREE veterinary treatment for injured pets (and wildlife). They need donations so that they can continue treating free of charge.

I know we are all digging deep, but anyone that wants to dig a little deeper, this is a good cause. I am sure international donations would be most welcome.

Thanks for posting this Karen.

The support given to the various appeals running over the last few days has been fantastic but we don't stop and think of the animal cost sometimes.

Just a quick update, fires are still burning in the area, it's very smoky here. Yesterday things picked up and there were massive ugly brown clouds of smoke going thousands of feet into the air because the Mt Riddell fires broke containment lines near Narbethong.

I got my mare back because the owners needed to get horses off their property, I might try to move her away from here again though, I am not sure it's over just yet.

Where I walk the whippets has turned into a temporary city for all the emergency workers, trucks and tents everywhere.

I took this on Wednesday morning, looking through the smoke haze at the emergency set up in the park

same morning, taken at about 7.50am, sunrise on Mt Riddell, that's "my" mountain, I live at the base of it.

lots of these signs around at the moment

The only people I can think of that live in areas close to the fires are John and Angela McLeod. I do not think there was a fire in the actual place they are though.
But some of the "smaller" fires do not even get reported on TV, we had here quite lot of smoke yesterday, and later i found out there were fires somewhere along the foreshore, including one in Black Rock, which is half way between here and the city.

I am so sorry - i hope you are all safe
