My girl has twice caught a hedgehog, picked it up by its prickles and brought it to us. I thought they rolled into balls so dogs couldn't get hold of them? Anyone else have this happen?

My whippets are hedge-hoggers :(

Jessica is known at "the prickle" as she always managed to pick them up without getting spiked.

Thank you Fleesh. I'm even more surprised that a dainty little whippet would pick up a hedgehog!

My greyhound Claire does the same given half the chance!

Had a Dob who used to have great satisfaction in catching hedgehogs and killing them by crunching them, right horrible tart she was, used to run round with them in her mouth with me trying to catch her to rescue them but normally too late.

My greyhound cross snatched up a hedgehog, ran a big circle with him (while the whippet who had found the hog in the first place chased after them). My dog dropped the hedgehog, still curled up in a ball and I think alive. No blood on either animal, no spikes embedded in my dog.

a while ago there was a lurid photo on k9 of a whippet with loads of quills stuck in her (?) muzzle. I think it was from a porcupine not a hedgehog??
