Hi People,

I'm new to this, and I am interested in racing my whippet Paddy in the East Midlands area. He has never raced before and we want to race him for a bit of fun really, nothing too serious. He would love socializing with other dogs and find it very enjoyable, as would we.

Finding it very difficult to obtain any info regarding racing so if any of you good ppl can help I would be more than greatful. Thanx and hope to hear from you soon. :D

I think old hall wrc, church gresley and asfordby wrc may be youre nearest.

it may be a good idea to contact chris at whippet news and see what she can suggest.

Tel No for Asfordby Whippet Racing Club (Melton Mowbray) Steve Richardson 01664-851228 or Chris Cornish 01455-442239.

Good luck with your whip! :D

Thanks for the info i'll try both of your suggestions and hopefully Paddy will be mixing it with the best of em soon enough.

Any training tips you could give me for that extra edge would be welcomed. At the moment he's chasing an old sock around the garden and he's loving it. Causing a bit of a pong around the neighbourhood mind you :D .

Also what is "hand slipping"?? I've heard it mentioned in a cpl of texts but not sure what it is.

Cheers again, Neil

hand slipping is where you hold your dog then let him go after the lure. This lets him get used to chasing the lure. Then when hes done that a few times you put him in a trap

NEILPEM,

I have been doing a bit of research on Whippet racing and managed to find out what hand slipping was. My dog is currently chasing and old sock around the garden and is very keen, so hopefully soon we will be progressing onto the nxt stage.

Cheers for the info anyway,

Neil.

try getting an onion bag and put some of his food in it and let him play with it thats what i do anyway to get em going, take him to a track to watch he will soon pick it up, good luck. ;)

Yes take him to the track as soon as possible and stand him near the traps, he has to get used to the noise of the lids going up and of course the noise the dogs make and their owners ??? :D :p ???

Chees for the advice,

I'll take both into account and hopefully soon he will be mixing it with the best of them. :D
