Hi

I'm new to the puppy owning gang, I have recently got myself an adorable 10 week lab and I'm completely in love. I live with a fellow dog owner and have kind of gone with things she has said on how to bring up my dog. I have just recently red that letting dogs go up and down stairs is bad for them, I have let him the past 5 days and I feel awful and upset that I have let him down like that. Will he be okay if I now continue to lift him? Also he had been play fighting with her dog, I've stopped it a few tries and I feel uncomfortable but she has told me it's fine? I don't want him to get hurt. I just want to give my little guy the best life possible. Can someone please advise me? I wouldn't be able to cope if I new I've done serious damage :(

First their are various ideas about stairs, for me I'd say a lab size would be better being lifted up and down for a bit yet. As to the play fighting, if both dogs are enjoying it then no problem. Also please note when they are doing it, it often sounds like they are intent on killing each other but its all noise and both are loving it.

Your puppy will be fine. Just limit the amount of stair climbing and, more importantly, descending he does.

Play fighting is fine but do remember that they may well continue to do this for the rest of their lives but it might get even noisier! I used to only allow play fighting to take place out of doors to save my sanity :)

Agree with the above. Sometimes worth splitting up the play fights after a while though if puppy is getting worn out! But in general they will play to the right level without hurting each other.

Wait - I just replied to you didn't I? Do you have two topics on the go or am I going nuts??
