Years ago when we had the horses we rented a field. The owner let us put up a small shelter and feed shed. We put pellets on the floor and then found rats had burrowed under them. We also discovered that if we put a small amount of corn on the floor were the rats could find it the never bothered with my feed bins. Eventually they got so cinfident they would come out to wait for their food when they heard us feeding the horses. At one time we had mum dad and babies sitting ouside with the horses waiting fot their tea. We didn't like to encourage them but it was better to put a bit of food out for them than to have them chewing their way into my bins and piching the lot and contaminating it too.
