Oh Lynda,

Sorry to hear about Lulu, I certainly hope that she makes a full recovery. I just went through something similar with Cochise, my old boy - it certainly is heart renching. It affected his neck front legs and half way down his back - was extremely worried that he had had a stroke. Over two day it moved over his entire body. I had to help him stand to go to the toilet, he was so weak. He was in pain and looked very sad. Had all sorts of tests done. Gradually though over the course of about three weeks he slowly regained strength. He is now quite happily playing with Steelie's puppy and teaching him the ropes.

So fingers and paws crossed here for Lulu that it is something similar. I know how you must be feeling Lynda it is so painful to see your companion going through something like this and feeling helpless. Email me privately if you want.

Take care

Cristina

I have asked for help on a NZ general list as it was suggested that acupuncture may work, the response has been heartwarming - so I will keep you updated :))

Tonite Lulu shared a bit of roast lamb, troffed out on some more scrambled eggs & had some sausage - she won't drink so that is being "given" to her. She does cry when she needs to go for a wee (not that it is terribly often) so fingers crossed that is a good sign

Thank you to everyone who have sent their best wishes, Lulu is one of those "one in a million" kind of dogs, I love her to pieces and have found this really hard, poor girl is most indignant when she wets her bed or as I was carrying her out to the toilet she pee'd on me - she looked up at me with her gorgeous eyes - I am hoping that if she has a bit of sense feeling the wetness we may be on the road to recovery. She is still unable to use her legs - I will keep you updated :)

I can understand why you must be distraught! I am sorry I have no advce but I do hope that Lulu makes a complete recovery soon.

Sending you and her all my very best. :huggles: :luck:

Hey Lana

No improvement - she has stopped drinking so I have to syringe it in, she refused food this morning, I am taking her to the vets for a drip for fluids - things are looking pretty grim.

The acupuncturists need survey xrays before they will treat her, there have been mixed responses to a successful outcome - so feeling quite flat today.

I was secretly expecting there to be at least a slight improvment, but it seems to be going the other way

Wendye had something similar happen to her Spice few years ago. I do not think they ever found out what was it. There was a handful of show dogs affected in the same way about the same time, I belive. Maybe an idea to get in touch with her. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Hi Lynda,

I forgot to ask the other night when we were chating, do you have ticks there, I had a bitch that had a tick and she too lost the use of her limbs ? Just a thought !

Good Luck Lulu

Hey there

No ticks.... popped her back to the vets as she has dehydrated, just waiting to hear from the vets as a message left on the answer machine saying she has taken a bit of a turn for the worse, she is not focusing & is biting her tongue.... not sounding positive.... hoping it is just a little speedbump for the road to recovery... the vet was meant to ring about an hour ago & I can't raise them on the mobile, hoping that she has calmed down & a good nite's sleep will bring a brighter day.

Here is a piccy of the gorgeous girl.. she is the one on the right with the flower - stunning photo taken by animal photographer Rachael Hale

No news from the vet, so I am hoping she is stabilised. I have spoken to 4 different acupuncture people around the country, they are fantastic people, and all have said that they have not treated such a severe case :( They have all advised that the acupuncture is not a track to go down & unfortunately have a similar end result. My vet & hubby are in the opinion that we give her a chance & see what the weekend brings, I have been to hell & back with emotions so up and down.

Thank you to all the awesome people sending Lulu their best wishes, this girl makes my mouth water & it is breaking my heart, it is great to have such a lovely network of people sending their best wishes.

I'm so sorry that the news isn't better for you and for Lulu, we all know how hard it is to go through illnesses with our dogs, wanting to give them the best chance but wanting to protect them from pain, it is the most heart-wrenching place to be

I really hope that she's over the worst now and on the road to recovery, she looks a beautiful girl :huggles: :luck:

I had a similar thing with my dog Woody last year . If I could find the post id show you

Hed got a type 2 prolaps , basically hed a trapped his spinal cord , Id gone to a specialist and he operated on him after doing the mylagram . He said that if I hadnt had it done when I did he would have ended up quadraplegic ( which I think is what has happened to your lovely girl . )

Woody is now running around like a puppy .( hes 11 years old ) It cost alot of money but it was well worth very penny .

I wish you luck with your girl , thinking of you both :huggles:

thinking of you and Lulu, i have got everything crossed for her :luck: :luck:
