Hi, Those of you that know will remember Blake had horrendous corns that resulted in the removal of one front toe on each foot He has been fine since until yesterday when he came back from a hunting foray lame. The other weight bearing toe is either broken which i suspect or dislocated. He wont put it down and is swollen

Have heard from others that plating, pinning or casting dosnt work and causes pressure sores and real problems They suggest is better left to heal as with human toes

Not sure what to do here at all, has anyone else any ideas before I take him to vet

He has been on Metacam since last night for the pain

HELP

I have come to the conclusion that they are better left to heal on there own. The mess the last dog got in from the splint was unbelievable, I vowed I would never splint again.

If the toes is dislocated it should be re-aligned I would think, but splints are aweful on a Whippets tender skin.

Get better soon, Blake. :)

So sorry to hear about poor Blake.............get well soon Blake :luck: :huggles: :huggles:

Oh dear Jan...I do hope poor Blake gets sorted out,I agree that if it is a dislocation, that he will need to have it put back (bloomin painful...I know I've had many a dislocation from my eventing & hunting days!) but it will need to be clarified initially as to what the damage is. Keep us posted.

And I hope he makes a full & speedy recovery. :luck:

Have booked him in tomorrow first thing, so will at least know what im dealing with

I dont think its dislocated as ive had that before but the toe does seem shorter.. could still be either i suppose as a break could look the same if the bones have overlapped

Its a big worry as its the only weight bearing toe he has left..... I have heard horrendous stories with pinning or casts

fingers crossed and thanks for the help
