hi everyone im new on here , i wanted to know your views on slip mating , took my bitch to a dog tuesday he mounted her and did what they do when mating he stayed on top of her for a couple of mins and then turned around but after turning he only stayed tied for a couple of mins , do you think she wil still catch even though the tie only lasted a couple of mins , she was day 12 of her season i didnt bother with a second mating due to the fact the dog was 3" taller than my bitch and i thought maybe thats why we had a slip mating

WElcome to K9

Pups can result from a slip mating , my first litter produced 8 pups from one .

I would however have gone for another mating . the fact that the male was 3inchs taller wouldnt have made any differance .

Good luck with any future pups . what breeding are they ?

the stud was sooty sam and oakbark , the reason i didnt bother with a second mating was because the owner of the dog had said the dog was proven but when i went to his house i was told the dog hadnt bred any bitches since the man had him ,but apparently he had mated 3 bitches with his last owner and sired pups , anyway there was no proof really that the dog is proven . in my opinion maybe this man was out to make a quick money i didnt pay a stud fee because of the slip mating i didnt think anything had happened because he wasnt on the bitch that long . so just wait n se if she has pups now

what was the reason for using the stud?? slip matings often do catch but for obvious reason there is every chance it may not,

" in my opinion maybe this man was out to make a quick money" what other reason is there for putting a dog up for stud??

had to use a different dog because my own dog is the father of the bitch i wanted bred and she is an excelent looking whippet and would produce lovely pups and before anyone on here trys to lecture me about having a litter ive all ready got homes if we do have pups

the tie only lasted a couple of mins
If they tied then it's not a slip mating, a slip mating by definition is one where a tie did not occur. You and the stud dog owner should have been on hand to hold the dogs once they tied as it is very easy for dogs to get injured pulling apart.

yes we were both on hand , i was holding my bitch still and the stud dog owner was stood right in front of the dog so they didnt pull apart , the tie just didnt last that long it was less than 5 mins after the dog turned around , i was just curious as to know if the bitch would catch from such a short tie .

As Chaumsong said, if they tied it was not slip mating. If the mating was done in the right time then you should have pups.

yes she was on day 12 of her season which is usually the best time for mating ,between 12 and 14 is usually the ideal time , ive never experienced a short tie so wasnt sure if she would get pregnant

When I do a mating I dont stand in front of either dog , but kneel down and put my arms under dog and bitches stomachs and hind legs to hold them so that neither can pull away from each other and do damage.

I take it its not a KC registered litter then?

no not kc reg , the both dogs were comfortable i was holding the bitch she didnt move at all neither did the dog , just the tie only lasted a few minutes and in my own experience with breeding the tie has lasted about 20 mins or so, ive bred whippets a few times and been keeping whippets for 19 years , just wondering if anyone else new of a short tie resulting in pups , so time will tell i suppose

Id expect pups as long as some sperm has reached the ovariers

Do lets us know

yes i will let you all know if she is pregnant , should start to notice in another 4 weeks can usually notice the bitch getting bigger around 5 weeks , so keeping my fingers crossed

Good luck what ever the outcome Seren 06 and welcome to the site.
