Hello every one,

Lovely to be here. We live in Somerset Uk and have two dogs. Ava who is three years old, who is a spaniel cross and Millie who is two and a half years, who is a cavapoo. We have had dogs all our life’s but Ava is a handful. They both passed puppy classes but it didn’t help with Ava’s troubles. Ava is a very excitable, highly strung dog. When we leave for a dog walk the excitable noise she makes is awful so loud. We have tried so much nothing is working. We have tried making her sit, give her a treat when quiet but it just starts again. We tried every time she makes the noise, turning around, again and again. Nothing is working. Any help would be great. We hate taking her for walks. I’m sure the neighbours hate it too. Never had this with dogs before. Thank you

Hi, welcome to the forum. Is Ava generally excitable and hyper? What's she like when she's actually on the walk, or generally in the house? Also, what do you feed her - what exact brand and variety? Do you still do training with her?

Hello and welcome.

I would ask myself whether making her sit, wait and try to be quiet is perhaps adding frustration?

When she is excited, giving her something else to do might help but can you match it to her activity level? Rather than a sit, asking for spins or something more physical than sitting might be easier for her.

But we often suggest that dogs could benefit from learning some impulse control.

I can't add anything training wise, but I would like to say hi and welcome.
One thing though if you are worried about the neighbours, to diffuse any possible complaints maybe go and talk to them, explain you are concerned about annoying them and that you are working on Ava's excitement noise pre walk. It might help you being less anxious about it too if you've had this conversation. (Being less worried yourself may help, as you said you hate taking her for a walk because of this) You being calm is also important.

Is Ava the working type or show type, how and where does she spend her day time and night time when not out walking with you?
As judyN has mentioned, what type of of food does she have, wet, dry or raw.
