I am Sue. I have recently retired and rescued a collie called Jess. The vet thinks she is around 5-7 yrs old, she was rescued from a bad situation so I didn't get much detail for her.

We think she has some sight issues and can't see fully as she is nervous about hands coming towards her and people and larger dogs, we think she may just see big shadows coming toward her. She doesn't seem as bothered about smaller dogs and is fine once she gets to know people.

Here she is playing in the bit of snow we had recently.

Congratulations on rescuing Jess! I rescued my border collie who had been thrown on the streets he was 6mth.
Such a beautiful breed and so loyal, it will take time for Jess to settle.

Welcome to the forum and thank you for rescuing a dog in need. It really upsets me that people can be so cruel and evil towards dogs - or any animal come to that. She looks lovely, I do hope you can help her overcome her issues and help her regain trust in humankind. Please keep us posted on your progress

Thank you all for your replies, bear with me I'm new to forums and iPads! They didn't exist when I trained to be a secretary many moons ago..lol!

Yes, Jess is a lovely girl, she seems to know she's safe here and seems to trust me. I've had several cuddles off her, (and yes her coat is lovely and soft, it's like cuddling one of those teddies with the 'long pile fur') but she's quite wary of anyone else.

I live on my own after I lost my OH a few years ago, a neighbour further up my road does fostering and had originally taken her in but Jess struggled living with their two other dogs and teenagers. The lady must have realised Jess maybe better in a quieter home with no other pets or children and asked if I would be able to foster her initially as a short term emergency as they had no other local fosters that were completely dog and child free.

So she arrived with a crate which we we put in my spare room to start with so she had a 'safe place' and could venture out when she felt up to it. It didn't take her long to suss me out though and realise she was safe here. she's a smart girl!

I do believe she has been for eye tests already as they were able to tell me what she could and couldn't see well.
