Marley has been suffering with a corn the boots give him comfort when he walks.
We have been thinking of an operation just trying to find someone local is hard.

@Whippylove, were you thinking of having the corn removed surgically,or the flexor tendon cut? From my investigations when Jasper had a corn, the first option isn't that successful as they tend to grow back, but the second seems to be very successful.

We're thinking of the flexor tendon cut, I've also heard it's got a better result and less likely to return.
At the moment I'm soaking his foot and using burts bees hand salve.

Good to hear from you, Whippylove. Mabel, has also experienced corns which I’ve managed to remove but they do come back. The vet told me that it was a general anaesthetic job so I did some research to effect a D.I.Y job. On the basis that it’s dead skin I just softened the pad and gently pulled the corn away. She didn’t make a sound although she wasn’t happy during the procedure.

Corns are a pain, aren't they? I tried everything with Jasper's - everything he'd let me do, anyway. In the end it just disappeared of its own accord.

If you have a greyhound trainer reasonably close by, they are usually brilliant at dealing with corns. It takes seconds, no meds needed. Or a specialist greyhound vet. can do the same. If you don't mind a journey or have a racing track within reachable distance, it's worth considering.

I can remove them easily, it's they just appear after a week. I'm not keen on surgery as Marley is 10 but it's awfully painful for him.

The poor thing, I've had no experience of this at all, but if you're not keen on surgery, (understandably!), and you can manage the condition for him with the boots and you removing them maybe that's the way to stay..?
Just a random question, can you use human corn plasters for dogs?? Actually I just googled it and the salicylic acid in them can be toxic for dogs, so that's a no then!

You are right surgery worries me. I actually looked up corn plasters and corn remover for humans and its not safe for dogs sadly, as it was something I had thought about.

I wonder if you could just make the cushiony disc bit, somehow, to stick around the corn for extra padding/protection...

Not sure, I'll have to take a look at that.
I did buy him insoles for his boots but they made him feel more uncomfortable.
