Hope For Retired Greyhounds?

Annette Crosby has been working for retired Greyhounds for years and I think has had several of her own. I am glad that Jilly Cooper has joined in, the more publicity the better.

I sure hope so too. They are the most gorgeous dogs and deserve protection from ruthless people in the sport

- and those good and caring people in Greyhound racing deserve the playing field to be leveled. If responsible people are putting their time and resources into doing the right thing by their retired racers they shouldn't be disadvantaged next to those who just 'dispose' of their 'surplus' inhumanely

I have met Annette Crosbie a couple of times. She came to the Greyhound March last year.

Personally I think that the 'right thing' is for race dog owners to keep their own dogs as pets when they retire. I don't think people should own greyhounds unless they intend to keep them. There isn't an endless supply of homes available to greyhounds and I really don't think it is fair that charities are expected to take these dogs in when their owners no longer have use for them. Much of the good work that takes place now is largely down to volunteers. Without these people I wonder what would happen to the thousands of 'retiring' dogs each year? What would the racing industry do with them all?

i agree the more publicity the better, all dogs should be kept after retirement, you shouldnt have them if you are not going to keep them.i havnt got greyhounds but i have 5 whippet cross greyhounds they are the best things ever to happen to me.my oldest one is 12 now and i have had him since he was 8 weeks old,he sleeps in the house next to the fire as all my dogs do and i certainly couldnt hurt them,or get new homes for them cos they cant race anymore.its great to see greyhound rescue doing great work cos greyhounds are wonderful pets.

and alot of dogs now are owned by syndicates too , esp some of the good dogs . I think they pay about £500.00 per share , not sure wether that incldues all bill s or not or wether its just for 1 year .

I bought a share of a horse for Philip when we got married , and that ran for just a year , Picked a goodun too ;) Smokin Beau , he won some really good sprints , hes still in training , but at 10 years old he can t keep up with the youngests :( I wish they would retire him , It must break his heart when they go sailing past :(

We went to the stables open day to meet him  , and hes a real nasty bugger (w00t) tries to bite anyone or anything that comes near him
