Im gutted..... Vet and Scan done today on Maggie and no pups could be seen.

Has anyone heard of the vet/scan getting it wrong, particularly if they are not a sight hound vet? Is there any other tests anyone knows of that can be done to see if she is pregnant, such as blood tests etc?

Sooooooooooo sad :( was really looking forward to being rushed off my feet and chasing the little bliters around :'(

There usually very accurate, we had cleo to a normal vets at 30 days in and he counted 7 pups.

so sorry sarah we know how much you wanted this :( Jane is very dispointed

I have heard of them being wrong in saying a bitch is not pregnant when she is.

They told me Twiggy was having 3,poss 4 pups and she had 6!

I'm so sorry Sarah, how very disappointing for you :(

Aww Sarah thats crap.........i knew how much you

were looking forward to having pups :huggles:

I have heard of vets getting it wrong but I don't think that happens often

I'm so sorry, Sarah :( , but sometimes things are meant to be ......... and the vet could be wrong

Lottie was scanned at 4 weeks, no puppies, :(

Was offered a free rescann at 6 weeks, 2 puppies were visable :b

at 9 week she produced 4 lovely babies :)

Oh Sarah, I am so gutted for you. It seemed you had good matings too, which makes it even more disappointing. You could try a human pregnancy test. I pooh poohed the idea when I was first told about them, as the bitches hormone levels would change if she was having a phantom pregnancy anyway - but the test checks for placenta hormone, and when we wanted to know if Sweep's "wife" was pregnant 2 weeks after the mating, it did come up positive on the pregnancy test.

If it turns out that she isn't pregnant, you can always try again. I always think things happen for a reason, and just maybe she was meant to have them at a different time :huggles: I know just how I would have felt if I were you, so I'm sharing your disappointment. Keep your chin up, and your fingers crossed.

Awwwwwww Sarah i,m so sorry :( ,there still could be hope yet :luck:

A friend had her bitch scanned a few years ago. They said no pups but 4 days after she would have been due the bitch was getting very stressed and was showing signs of being in labour. My friend rushed her to the vets were they scanned her again and she was having 1 big pup that was stuck so had to have a cearsarian

we had our bitch scanned both times and were told there was nothing there, the scan unfortunately was right both times :( i know how disappointed u must be feeling but you can always try again next time :huggles: :luck:

Aww sarah, how disappointing for you :( ,

cara,xx

though vets often get the numbers wrong if there are a few in there if there is anything there at all they can usually spot it, sorry

:( gutted for you, i'll keep all crossed for next time :luck:

The scan i had on my lurcher wasn't very acurate.....vet said 6 ...........she had 14

thanks for everyones comments and reassuring messages.

Im not going to give up hope just yet. Am going to have her checked again in another couple of weeks and carry on treating her as if she is in pup.

Have heard a number of stories now when vets have got it wrong and told people the dog isnt pregnant only for the dog to produce healthy pups at a later date.

Im keeping my fingers crossed. :b

How many weeks since mating? MY bitches carry their pups right up under their ribcage, at about 5-6 weeks it is often difficult to see that she is pregnant. I never had a scan done; my vet thinks it is waste of money and his time, as the scans can be very unreliable. I would only have a scan done towards the end of the pregnancy and if there were doubts whether she is in pup or not.

Definitely do not discount the possibility that she is pregnant. If she does not look big by about he 7th week I would have a scan done again; because if she only has one huge pup you do need to be prepared for the possibility of needing a caesarian. That is not saying that if she only has one she will definitely need help, she may whelp it without too much assistance, but you need to know if she has or does not have anything there.

Good luck, hope he was wrong and she has 6 :)
