I've been having a debate with hubby about how many people keep lots of dogs, and whether pointies particularly lend themselves to being kept in large numbers. Some of those who race and show their hounds seem to keep a fair few dogs but recently I've met a couple of pet owners with huge packs. So to satisfy my curiosity I've posted this poll. And if anyone would care to add more detail on why they keep the number of dogs and the breeds that they do I'd be really interested.

Annie

I have the four girls but if i had a bigger house i would

love a lurcher or two

I have always kept two dogs together sometimes three

but they have always been different breeds. This is the

first time ever i have more than one of the same breed.

Five dogs here, 3 lurchers and two very different small crossbreed/terriers.

Fot the last 18 years I have had at least 4 dogs occasionally 5 . I prefer to have 4 as I like to have the room to take in an emergency as was the case when I got my whippet Dina . I would definately not like to have any more than 5 (w00t)

The total tally here is

6 whippets (living indoors)

3 lurchers (1 living indoors, 2 outside)

2 GSDs (living outside)

I couldn't have anything other than whippets (and Poacher) in the house purely because of the dirt which would be brought in on longer coated dogs

Hounds are pack animals and I believe they thrive on having their own kind as company. I have never had any problems with leaving them on their own and Jinny manages them all very well when I'm absent

i asked the same question nearly 2 years ago,

http://www.k9community.co.uk/forums/index....c=48337&hl=

it will be interesting to see if the results are the same or whats different. :))

when we just had 2 i was desperate for a 3rd and was sure i would have like 10 if i was aloud,

now having 3 i think we are at maximum capacity.

i can now just about walk 3 with out getting to tangled up, i think if we had any more i would be needing to walk them in pairs as id struggle, and 3 lots of poo picking is more than enough :x lol

the car crate/boot is now full so anymore whippets and we would need a bigger car. the house crate(s) are full so we would need a bigger house for a bigger/more crates.

so untill we win the lottery and can buy a huge house with lots of fields, 3 is our max :)

2 whippets and 11 lurchers own me.

I have a large van to take them to shows, each with lovely living apartments for 1 or 2 dogs to travel in.

My kennels are made by Reeves,I can kennel 9 outside and I have my 2 whippets and 1 lurcher pup indoors.

I stand in the face of average and laugh hysterically! (w00t)

Whatever you do Katie, don't move house- especially anywhere more rural, big, BIG, BIG mistake!! :teehee:

13 here 10 whippets 2 greyhounds and an irish setter.

I think last time I had 11.

13 here all whippets.

When asked how many dogs you've got and you reply "13" i think there's only whippet folk wouldn't think you were bloody bonkers. Love people asking how many we've got when i'm out with Jacqui, makes 13 look a reasonable number

13's not reasonable, it's an odd number for starters! :-

Come on admit it, it doesn't really feel like you've got so many dogs - well maybe it does at feeding time!! (w00t)

and I thought I was mad  ....... I am known in the VILLAGE as "the whippet woman"

and I have only got 8!! They all live in the house - just wait until I eventually win the lottery

lol

lol @ Elaine! Actually I thought you had about 4 or 5!

When I moved in with Tony, I quickly discovered he's known round here as the mad ginger bloke with all them ginger dogs!

Mind you they don't say that now I'm here.........

Now we've got Gingers, Blues, Blacks, Black and Whites, Whites with fawn :-

No brindles though!!!!

What's amusing me is hubby looked at those questions and said "More than 15? No one will have more than 15, can't be many with more than 10". I told him he was wrong

When you win the lottery how will you be fixed for boarding half a dozen so we can go abroad? lol.

Cheers Elaine, knew you'd say yes

OOOooh we'll have to sort that out!!!

Well past the one of every colour, we've gone onto different shades now   (w00t)

I have 4 and to think i was only having 1 !!!

Michelle's got the chocolate one! What really makes me laugh is that the kids see both ours and their Mum and Dave's dogs as all their pets and probably give their teachers a cardiac when they say they have 25 dogs and some fish!
