 Too late to edit...my point was outstanding coursing deerhounds mentioned above had no trouble getting down to bunnies (and the bigger ones when they were allowed  ) despite their height as Doxhope has already pointed out about the leggier ones...looking forward to hearing how yours gets on Shakey...BTW what have you called her?

Pennys Chieftain was defeated, havent got my records with me, but think it was Doxhope Lady Gwendalin :- "

Remind me...how many times did Doxhope Lady Gwendalin win the Dava Quaich??? Think Penny's Cheiftain is the record holder 4 years (possibly five)...not into stats  ... beyond that original post did state EXEPT WHEN WITHDRAWN DUE TO INJURY (w00t) ...I'll get Sheila to you Bill if your gonna start splitting hares

:b :b :b For the 1st time in...my life  I stand corrected Mr Doherty. :clown: Indeed have found coursing report stating the fact that Doxhope Lady Gwendalyn is the first hound to beat him, previously only beaten by injury...but maybe he was only being gallant as is/was she not one of his daughters?

Havent got my records with me  here they are :D No Gwendalin didnt ever win the main acolades, Yes she was one of his daughters, I nearly kept her back but as her new owner was a keeper on a big estate and work for her was going to be assured I opted to keep only the one, which, by a mistake when I wasnt about, this one was exported :(

I will have to check your record source my dear next time I come up, sounds like youve got some interesting tit bits there

I will always be the first to say that Pennys Chietain was the best coursing deerhound Ive seen...BUT he did have one major fault

lol, thanks for the pic's Bappit, i can get an idea, i've got a 11 year old brother so should be similar sizes. Seems like a lots riding on this what Doxhope's possibly gonna be displayed in Fenwick's window, maybe i should have kept to the little Lurchers, lol. Called her twiggy, she's Brindle and my 6 year old brother thought her legs looked like sticks, but sticky didn't seem to have the same ring. She's been for a little walk with the other dogs, she wached them do a bit of work, seemed very interested, lol,

Jake

Only the battle Dox! The battle only, NOT THE WAR (w00t) :luck: :luck:

Hi Shakey, thank goodness your back!!! Twiggy cool name...still need picures though  for a bit of  factor...and a bit of light relief as...goodness knows where your innocent initial post may lead us yet  ?

Hi Sahke,

found a couple of sheets with sizes, a bitch deerhound I bred, at 13 weeks, was 19 inches and weighed 27lb, at 14 weeks, 20 and a half inches, at 19 weeks was 24 inches and weighed 45lb, this bitch made 29 inches

Im HERE !!!!!!!! As for me guessing a height, errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr no chance lol I dont feel brave enough to bare anything of mine in any window, should I be wildly wrong. :b :b :b

Would be great to see some pics of Twiggy tho

Just looking back through some old posts and wondered how big Twiggy is now, 2 months on? I'm wondering the same thing about my pup Scrumpy at the moment. She's 19" and approx 6 months old. We don;t know what cross she is so havn't really got a clue how she'll end up. At what age do they stop growing? She's all leg, and really skinny looking. The vet said she's lean so I'm not worried that she's underweight but seems to be putting all her energy into growing upwards not outwards!!

I was always led to believe that a pup is growing up until approx 18 months of age although a lot of this time towards the end is filling out rather than up! I am not sure if this is correct or not, but I know that our last lurcher grew upwards and also filled out well after 12 months of age. Our new lurcher pup Zair is growing like a weed and we are estimating that considering the height of his parents he will be around 28 inches when fully grown. He is only 13 weeks at the moment but already is starting to get that "lurcher" shape with a deep chest and a lean look about him - how lurchers should be! It is very noticable at puppy training (where most of the other dogs seem to be pedigrees!) how differant Zair is in shape compared to the other pups (although most are a month older than he is) - the other pedigree pups do seem to be much chunkier than Zair and one in particular (a labrador dog pup) is VERY solid!! However, already Zair is a lot taller than most of them! I think your pup Scrumpy is an real smasher and I would say that looking at her she is going to be quite a height - do you have any pics of her standing? She is very pretty too!

Scrumpy is beautiful!

I'm reading this thread with interest, not least because I just two weeks ago got a whippet ( my first) from a rescue centre, and was told she is one year old. since we got her she appears bigger. wider, more substantial and just, well - bigger!

I realise she was a bit skinny from being in the pound and whatever journey she was on that made her end up there in the first place, but it does make me wonder, also about over feeding and wether whippets ever get overweight.

She is a very polite dog at human mealtimes, but she WANTS any bit of left over toast or pie or biscuit or ..... whatever.. and it's hard to say no.

Here's a pic of Scrumpy standing up (and still). Emily- I have the same thing at puppy class, we have lots of fat, chunky collie pups, a lovely chubby choc lab, a huge newfy and a tall, skinny lurcher. She looks half starved next to that lot.

J.T - Scrumpy is just so  Looking at her standing I would say she will end up approx 26" - she is a lovely looking lurcher and like with my new lurcher pup it is so interesting to think what they are going to turn out like as they are constantly changing!

I don't think she'll make much over 23"- a really nice height to have around the house

She's seriously cute by the way

  BEAUTIFUL pup . I have no idea how big she will grow, but Basil didnt reach his present size ....... he is now approx 28" and weighs 32-35kg until he was 3 years old! He too was a lanky scragger and I always worried he was too thin and that people would think I didnt feed him, but hes the sort of frantic kid who is constantly on the go. During his third year he thickened out and furnished but still carries no spare flesh.

Good luck with Scrumpy and keep posting pics :luck:
