You are probably right in all you say.
Unfortunately there must be a hell of a lot of witless people about to keep these Breeders in business.

Having said that i will NEVER cease to be amazed at the enguiries i get from Jo Public.

There is such a high percentage of people out there who genuinely know NOTHING about dogs & puppies even down to the most petty things, we take for granted.

I'm sure if such a person rang one of the said ADS & was fed a load of false information they would have no reason to disabeleive it!!

oh, i do know! amazing how many idiots crawl out the woodwork when a litter is born! anyone who got passed the initial phone call thoroughly examined the pups paperwork here, as well as through breed club channels. there was one chap who said he wanted a tough, beefy male pup, and wouldnt go over £200. in his first sentence to me! riiight! what do YOU want him for? GOODBYE!

if you spend months looking for a suitable father for your litter, months getting your bitch in best possible condition before even considering getting her mated, investing all that time and love with no guarentee of a litter, there is no way on earth you'd let such fools within 10 miles!

if jo public could see how much effort true breeders put into their puppies, the heartache involved, they might realise that any breeder NOT showing such caring isnt worth buying from. at the very least realise that with such dodgy types, after service doesnt exist. if the pup is for their children, they need to see that pups from farms often die within days of purchase. maybe they dont care about the pup, but would they be so callous when they have to explain why darling fluffy died to their children?

Absolutley agree.

We have only bred 5 litters in 16 years & only parted with 5 pups out of this & these were to well known friends.

We have driven hundreds of miles vetting homes only to be dissappointed.

My last litter i kept all 4 in the end cos i was sooo sick of vetting stupid people!!

Like the last couple who saw the 4 9 week old pups haring around & playing then asked "Are they always like this? We really wanted something that would sit quietly in the corner, we are used to having cats"

My reply..........................you guessed it!! " SO GET A CAT " cos you are certainly not having one of my pups if you expect ANY 9 week old pup to sit quietly in a corner!

Just an idea but if you rang the council in the area that the ad is run, they are duty bound to at least go and visit the premises, if they are unlicensed then maybe they would at least be closed down for a while? Also inform dogs trust and national welfare orgs, if enough people got together and put in complaints maybe something could be done? If the dogs are in poor condition then the rspca ( for all the use they are) must go and keep checking, and these people really dont want the orgs bothering them so pester them enough and they might give up through pressure? unlikely but at least they would know that dog lovers wont put up with it and that action will be taken

Unfortunately farmers in Wales, for instance, receive grants to encourage them to 'diversify' into dog breeding. Inspection is minimal, licenses are handed out like candy, and the real conditions the dogs are kept under is swept under the carpet.

For many families buying a puppy is something they will do once or twice in their lives, they know nothing and are very easy to fool. For instance often people think that simply being KC registered and 'having papers' means that the dog is well bred and parents will have been health tested.

Education has to be the key - people think a puppy is a puppy..... and would probably do more research into buying a vacuum cleaner.

I can see Ianlena's point that rescues taking the ex-breeding bitches are cleaning up after the trade, it is a difficult one ethically. But the reality is that for many of these dogs, if there was nowhere they could be dumped the end would probably be a shovel to the head.

:( sadly, too many dogs meet their end that way already :( what i meant was that, while these rescues are doing a worthy job, the true plight of the animals involved isnt publicised enough. rescue goes in, removes the dogs, done. very low key. the sun newspaper recently printed pics and stories of abused/neglected etc pets. for the most part, one pet badly treated. why cant the sun focus next on these evil puppy mills, where the studs, dams (themselves numbering in the dozens) and EVERY SINGLE pup born (possibly hundreds per year) suffers the same, if not WORSE treatment? one photo in the sun had me in tears, a little spaniel bitch, heavily pregnant, thrown into water with weights tied to her. these pics shocked the nation, but a lot of people stuck their heads in the sand.. oh, its only a few sick individuals who would do this. they wont be able to keep pretending if for a month they had to actually SEE what so called 'respectable' businesses put these poor creatures through year in year out, for MONEY.

Just came across the ad below in one of those admart papers on the net.
Absolutely disgusted that the paper even allows ads like this!!!  It does appear to be an old ad & the email address does not seem to be in use anymore.

However, it makes you wonder whatever became of these poor breeding bitches & their pups?  :(
