How do you feel about dog rain coats?

So our Botty does like to walk when it is raining but not to hard. When it rains cats and dogs? He doenst seem to fond of it.

I was thinking to buy him a raincoat for those days. And to be honest I find also cute looking which he can use cause he looks like he will bite when he is curious or interested . (Its a cross boxer/pug or dachshund/pug, so big eyes and a overbite.)

On the other hand I also know many others will be judgemental about it. With my previous furry I got in many discussions over his cooling jacket on hot summer days. So I am wondering how all stand in the dog jackets department.

We use an Equafleece tankie in cold or wet weather.

I'm not a fan of dogs being dressed in costumes, but functional clothing is absolutely necessary for some dogs.

Do what you think is right for your dog, and stuff what anyone else thinks.

Jasper used to not like heavy rain, particularly if it was really cold, as he has next to no undercoat. I got him a coat, but one day he just refused to leave the house in it. When I took it off, he was happy to go out. So now, I just let him decide whether it's too wet/cold/hot. Though often if it is raining, once he's actually out the front door he's happy to walk.

"Equafleece" products are very good. They are very soft and mold to the shape of your dogs body, comfortable to wear, they are excellent for keeping a dog both warm and dry.
They are not stiff and rigid as so many dog coats are!
Google "Equafleece" to see their products.

I have used them for many years to help the dogs dry out in the shooting season. (polo neck coats)

A big fan of dog coats here, jackets, etc. Miles has his own wardrobe for all kinds of weather. Rain coat, warm winter coat, fleece tummy warmer.... some brand new for him, others he inherited. He actually likes his coats, and on cold days doesn’t go out until someone puts one on him. Most of them have reflective stripes, which helps when walking later in the day.

But they have to fit well in order to be comfortable.

My dogs have raincoats. They hate the rain ! I don't get why some dog owners are against raincoats etc.

This isn’t an advertisement - we bought one of our whippet’s coats from Pointy Faces - an outdoor jacket for when it was dry but ‘brass monkey’ weather. It’s light and easy to get on and off. She also has a raincoat as she hates the rain. That’s the joy of having of having follicularly challenged dog.

Folly is another Whippet that has waterproof coats, warm coats and waterproof warm winter coats. She hates getting wet and although she's not very happy in the rain she does at least go out with a coat. I am a bit puzzled about one Border Collie I see at times that has a coat on. I have never talked to the lady and of course its up to her but to me the Collie is well equipped by nature.

One of my friends coats her collies because otherwise it's another hour of work to shower them off, dry them and brush them. They really do absorb the mud!

I've never put coats on my dogs except when they were very old and felt the weather. They are working dogs and working while cold and/or wet is part of the deal. I have no criticism whatever of others coating their dogs if they think it's needed.

I got reactions with my late Peanut. Pug and black fur, so above 22c he almost fainted without a cool jacket. He was allergic to so I have talked with some folks. Little of them used coats + boots for grass allergy's. Maybe her collie has allergy's and she needs to bath him/her often. Than the nature fur is not working anymore.

It's a shame that there are many working dogs that are not thought more of. I know of quiet a few that just get shoved into their kennels at the end of a hard wet days work, wet, cold and often very muddy. Some just on wooden boards or with a bit of straw or piece fleece if their lucky.
It's the least we can do for ours after working all day in all weathers, sometimes up to 4 days a week, is to keep them warm at the end of the day. It is not their choice but ours that they go out in all weathers.
Ours are also family members, they live indoors with us. So not as tough as a kenneld dog.
We get home from a long wet and cold days work and have a hot shower or bath and so do our dogs.(dogs first), Clean warm Equafleece indoor coats/pyjamas, (hee hee) ready to be put on to finish off the drying process for the dogs.
Next day their ready to go again.

I think they're fantastic, and particularly helpful when it's muddy out too. My personal preference is equafleeces.

Just in case anyone thinks my dogs were put in a cold damp kennel after work - nope, they were dried off and snuggled indoors in front of the fire before we even had our own wet coats off.

Being towelled off after a wet walk is Jasper's favourite bit! He gets quite excited, and if you're not quick enough with the towel he's squeeze between your legs to use you as a mangle!
