Where is this club in Cornwall, I have never heard of it?

Just go along Tanya and take it from there, for a ped club weight can't exeed 32lb,to start with you will need muzzles(essential) and later racing jackets but I would see if you/the dogs like it before you buy them because they aren't cheap.

The manager of the club will probably want to watch your dogs run alone at first to see if they chase, then with others to see if they run clean(no fighting) then from there you should go on to proving trials, which is running with other dogs properly in different stages to check the dog is focussed and does not interfere with other dogs in different runs, if passed allow your dog to run officially in proper races all this takes time and will be done over a number of weeks probably depending on how busy the club is

If you go along to your nearest club they should talk you through it properly :D

You mean the West Cornwall Pedigree Whippet Racing Club, I belong to the Lizard & Dist PWRC we only run whippets, the kennel cough down here was spread by the non peds that race there, so I was told.

Forgot, I would be very surprised if you could run your Borzois there!. Whippets for sure.

My puppy caught kc from one of a couple of visits to the vets last month. Didn't hear any coughs while waiting for the vet, however this is the only place he could have contacted it.

My other whippets haven't coughed, and the puppy is now clear.

However it seems to me that kc is widespread among dogs at the mo, for whatever reason and everybody should be on their guard.

well im not sure of the name of the club but after a long chat with the owner i was told i could!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of pedigree Whippet racing clubs let other breeds of dog trial  ...... It helps boost the income of the club and often the owners of over sized Whippets, Lurchers and all end up with a Whippet/racing bred Whippet :D .....

If it is West Cornwall, nobody owns it! It comes under the Whippet Club Pedigree Racing Club, and runs under its rules and regulations. You have to be a member to run. That is if it is West Cornwall. there is the Helston Lurcher Club that have their own show ground, you could run most dogs there. They have a two day show and lure coursing, racing etc in August at The Lurcher Show Ground, good fun.

I dont think this is really helping answer posh tottys question so ive pm'd you!

thanks

The person you need to speak to at west cornwall is Edward Rowe, as he racing manager, you can Pm Him On( Nymchy) he will give you all the advice you need and you don't have to be a member to go along and see what it is all about

Hi Poshtotty - and apologies for the geographically impaired ones!

As Peppermint says - if Newmarket is close to you then give Carol a call, you will be able to take your dogs and at least run them solo whatever they are. If they are pedigree whippets, then after suitable trials they can join in the fun too. Newmarket tends to run twice a month but call Carol in the first instance.

Of course you may also want to try the Scottish PWRC - another local one eh? :- "
