I'm a woman of a certain age and my memory is appalling
To be fair though , Ive always been forgetful and I used to wear a sweat shirt with Away with the Fairies on it .

Yesterday , I asked my OH what was the name of the Home my BIL was in. When he told me , I said , Oh of course it is , I knew that really. My memorys not that bad , I know my cars a Corsa and laughed. he said Erm its a Micra. 😆

Mine's awful. Like you, it always was rubbish, but now age is added on top of that. I'm pretty sure I'd fail an Alzheimer's screening, but then I wouldn't bet on passing it when I was fresh out of uni with a degree.

Well as shown on the defectors thread I can't even remember who I am  I can recall really inane useless information from years and years ago but ask what I did 5 minutes ago or why I'm stood in the larder, well I have not a clue 🤣 I am blaming it entirely on hormones, they are also to blame for the fact I keep throwing not rubbish in the bin and walking around wondering why I am holding the rubbish, my favourite thing currently is throwing away teaspoons whilst still holding the teabag/cat food pouch/dog food topper tin 🤣

My memory is quite bad but not as bad as TOT word retrieval. This can interrupt a sentence several times, quite often the word is never found in that whole conversation.

Had one the other day that I knew I knew but it wouldn't come to me all day. Yesterday it was there in an instant.................sigh..............today it's gone again. I'll let you know if I remember it 😅

My memory is also shocking. In fact I'm very annoyed with myself at the moment. My little granddaughter bought me a compact mirror for my birthday with granny engraved on it. I've hunted high and low for that mirror and can't remember where I've put it. I have a horrible feeling I've thrown it out with the birthday wrapping. Also since I've retired I have to think every morning when I wake up what day is it?

What is TOT word retrieval?

At times I think I have a pretty good memory, other times it's terrible.

Tip of the tongue - when you know there's a word that is exactly the one you want, but can't bring it to mind. It's a right pain when that happens when I'm copyediting and need to recall it 🤣

Thanks. That happens to me, writing something or talking to someone and can not think of the word I want.

I was writing an essay about hieroglyphs, had got into the flow but had to stop, could not think of the word (hieroglyph funnily enough) and all I could come up with was 'picture word thingies' 😆

It's hilarious I can go upstairs forget what I've been up for till I get to the bottom step and then suddenly I remember what it was I forgotten and I have to go back up again.
But I can remember my nana's phone number even though she hasn't lived there since about 1983.. I can remember the number for the call box outside my mother's house even though I haven't lived there since 1981 and the call box has since been dismantled.
However I cannot remember my husband's telephone number for his mobile.
In my case I have a feeling it's more than things that we need to commit to memory such as in the old days where we needed to remember a telephone number rather than those things nowadays which we don't need to remember such as a telephone number because it's in our mobiles and we can automatically dial .
I must be a crazy dog lady though when trying to remember events I often think what dog did we have at that time, that way I can narrow down the timescale. 😊

It took me a couple of years to remember my own mobile number! I tend to remember Latin names of bugs better than their common names... and whereas I can wander around in the countryside with no idea whether I'd been that way before, I'd suddenly think, 'Ah, that bush is where I first saw an Anthophora bimaculata!' (That is a slight exaggeration - I spelt Anthophora wrong on my first attempt and had to check the second part, but you get the idea.)

I have the memory of a Goldfish.

I check the Calendar … then an hour later I’ve forgotten 😐

I put an “unignorable” alarm in my phone for everything … on the morning of, then update it to an hour before … otherwise I’d have forgotten by the time it comes round.

It was really noticeable once I hit Menopause, but the additional hunting for words and ability to speak which also appeared improved on HRT 😊

I’ve been off HRT a while and hoping I don’t regress 😬
