you carnt argue with the judge if fact you carnt ask him or her anything about the course .their decision is final thats part of the game  (w00t)
like the quote says, you cannot argue with the judges descision its final. :D as a rule though most judges are expert at marking a course and will be time served with many years practice. anyways arguing over the judges descision just makes you look like an assehole..and or a sore loser

Spot on Sparky

When the dogs are slipped the run up to the first roller is worth a maximum of 3 points depending how much the leading dog is in front then as long as both dogs follow the course a point is awarded for each roller.

So if the lead dog we will call A got to the roller 10 yards in front i would award 3 points to that dog(if that distance was 5 yards i would award 2 points & if it was 2 yards 1 piont) if the back dog we will call B then passed the lead dog i would award that dog 1 point so at present its 3-1 to the lead A if dog B now stayed in front to the next 2 rollers the points would now be equal 3-3 & so on.

If dog A stayed with the course & dog B started to cut the course causing dog B to gain an advantage dog B would be deducted a point for each roller cut during the course.

The winners coloured collar is held up by the Judge & the Judges decision if Final.

This is how i have judged lure coursing events some judges will differ slightly as they might look at a course cutting dog as using its working brain to cut off it quarry as it would in live coursing but on the whole most will go something like this.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the explanations guys  .....Still its just fun, the dogs enjoy it and it is a persons personal opinion which I think makes it even more fun :D

If coursing hares is banned and hunting for rabbits with whippets is allowed why cant we course with rabbits? :- "

The easy answer is that rabbits live below ground & need bolting/or will go straight to ground when chased.

A hare lives above ground so will use all its speed & turning skill to evade capture.

Hannah your spot on at the end of the day its all about FUN & having a top day out with like minded people

Hi - I don't think you have been in this game very long!My point is your dog may run without knowing the rules! :)

But when he/she doesn't win he/she also doesn't care and is unable to make his/her point to the 'powers that be'.

Therefore it is up to you as an owner to raise any issus on behalf of your runner.

If you are not prepared to 'watch' the organisers for any 'odd' interpretations of the rules then you may as well ask that your dog is always placeed '2nd' or does not get a score - basically - you aren't going to win, but you first have to know the rules!! :(

lol well you'd be right about that!

but you're assuming that i actually care where we get placed - me an Dij are pretty well matched on that score :D

truth is, I go because it's a great day out (stood in a cold muddy field lol!) with friendly people who go to watch their dogs run and have a laugh with like minded people. I don't doubt that some of them are also hoping to win, and that's great - though if it felt like a snidey competitive atmosphere instead of a good natured one i wouldn't go.

Digit just likes to chase stuff - and I like to find places where he can

Exactly

Iwas just interested how it was scored so Ill have more of a clue as to whats going on in Feb!!! :b

I *still* dont know exactly how the BSFA is scored after 3 years of taking part and I dont care!  The dogs love it and that's the only reason we go, if they do well it's a great bonus but I still take the best dogs home with me each time.  At the end of the day lure coursing is one persons opinion on the day and I wouldnt want to win by arguing with a judge anyway.

I couldn't agree more. My dogs just love to run & I love to watch them run. As Hebe is now 8 the chances are she's never going to win anyway but she doesn't know that

Well said Sparky, they are there as a more experienced person to make an independant decision and thats why we have a judge, it has to be that way because some people think their dog should have won even if its obvious that it didnt, and the only way they will except the decision is if it cannot be disputed

Its the same in racing there has to be one person who will make the final call, which isn't an easy job so the last thing they need is someone disputing their decision and giving them a hard time.

At the end of the day if your dog wins great if it doesn't then its had a good run and the owners have had a good day out and you still take home the winner in your own eyes :huggles:
