Has any one else been on epupz and seen how much chihuahua puppies are going for? Some are as much as 2500(not much dog for your money)

I suppose its all to do with these so called celebs carrying them around in their bags. What will happen when the bubble bursts? I hope chihuahua rescue is well funded! :(

It is sad to think that now animals are being used as fashion accessories. I hate walking in town and seeing chihuahuas in bags and yorkies being carried in little old ladies shopping trollies. Makes me so angry!

my sis has one called lucy which she got given by some1 in our family who bred a litter, when we saw how much they were goin for we were shocked! they dont even have to be a outstanding pedigree to fetch good £ either, think it maybe because they're difficult to breed, along with the fact that nearly every celebrity has either got 1 or owned 1! funny little dog tho, winds the whips up proper!

I know they don't have very big litters usually and to think a chi breeder offered me a smooth male for 50 pounds(sorry my pound sign doesn't work!) for my daughter two years ago.He was beautiful(the dog that is) and i was very tempted but OH wasn't!

Yes, chihuahuas are difficult to breed, often there is only one or two pups, which all too often results in cesar being necesary. They are very mixed bag of types and sizes even in the ring. But they do make wonderfull pets and most owners value them for their personality and do not give a damn if they would win in a show, what is wrong with that? My daughter has one, Lily is almost 8 now, and she has been carried in a handbag long time before that movie. She loves being in her bag, she is secure there, nobody can step on her and she can go with my daughter everywhere; to work, to cinema, to restaurants, which makes her one very happy and content dog. We never bred her, she is just too precious to us, we could not bring ourself to do it, although we would have liked to keep her baby or two. :)

They are a very sweet dog, whos "commercial value" will lead some puppies into the hands of unscroupulous breeders/dealers trying to make a quick ££. That said many will be spoilt rotten little lap dogs!

Same here, dogs have legs for a reason.

... and can some use them! Yorkies have a real turn of speed when they need too, very fit, game and active little dogs when not overweight. Remember though, the world (with it's great forests of clomping feet) can be very intimidating for a real tiny, so the occasional 'lift' is fair enough.

No problem with the occasional 'lift' as the world must be a scary place when you are a diddy dog but I don't like it when poor things never get to walk outside.

No I know. Someone I used to work with in Swansea, a nice lady of spherical proportions, had a cavalier (of similar shape and degree of obesity) whom she always carried as 'he finds it so hard to walk'. I'm pleased to see someone must have had a word with her, as the dog now walks and looks a lot fitter, and she too has shed a few stones.
