Misty has had a cracked large back tooth for a few years, never causing her any problems until lately when it started to rot and get infections. After an X-ray, the vet decided it needed to come out.

The total bill including X-rays, drugs, Sedation and a General anesthetic came to £481

I get a bulk discount with having 4 whippets. My vets are expensive, I know that, but they are excellent and with a 20% discount I decided to stay with them. I got £84 off. I still think that £397 seems a heck of a price.

I do not begrudge spending the money on Misty, but I am concerned that she could have had quality care at the other local vets for less.

Does anyone have comparitive prices in their area?

:( :( :(

I think you were completely ripped off and would definitely query the bill....when Parker had his first back tooth removed it was 80 quid....when he later broke the other large back tooth and had to have it removed it was 120 quid and they considered it a tricky op as the tooth shattered and it took long time to remove..I don't think you are getting a discount at all...IO think they bump up the price then make it look like you get discount but in fact you are paying a huge amount.

Hope Misty feels alot better now but omg what a huge vet bill :( . I would certainly query it .

Luckily my vet is ace :D , he is fab with all 5 dogs which i think is really important

PLUS i like the fact i can have a banter with him and he speaks english to me ( not long words i dont understand  )

and i seem to have a knack off getting vets bills cheaper  infact in december i had my bitch spade and my boy done

vet gave me a quote of £300 but i managed to get price down to £240

I think if you are a bit cheeky with a smile on your face you may be lucky and get the price down

Basically if you dont ask you dont know hey

All the best

Misty is fine and recovering well.

Believe it or not, £397 was after a discount of £84. I have checked with all other vets in local area and this is at least £150 more than any other would charge. I am considering reporting them to RCVS but they are not an approved / registered practice. I have only just found this out. RCVS can only rapp their nuckles, they cannot do anything about the charge. All I can do is change vets and make my disgust known to my vet.
