How old does my Male whippet have to be before I stud him? I've heard it's a couple of years for females but not sure about males. Thanks

no idea about ages for studs

just wanted to say (please dont take offence to this) your baby is only 15weeks you shouldnt be worrying about stuff like this at the min, just enjoy him

I'm not sure about age either but I've heard that using a dog at stud can change their nature - I'm sure there will be others on K9 with first hand experience they can share though.

I think it varies from boy to boy, just don't be in too much of a hurry, there are plenty of dogs out there who are champion racers, showers, top coursers etc etc for people to use on their bitches.

I would love a puppy out of my bitch (because she's the most amazing dog ever...in my eyes  ) but not likely to because of the huge amount of puppies out there and the huge rescue problem - just my opinion :D

Enjoy your lovely little boy

I put Robbie to stud at 4yrs old, after he had won both champ titals :D

As for age of a stud,,,,most owners would like to see what your dog has won,,eg shows, racing , coursing etc, so he would be 3 yearl old at least

A boy dog can have pups from about 8 months old,,,

I agree with Katie d & Susan.

If your pup is 15 weeks you have a absolute minimum of 2 years before you need to even be thinking this.

We don't wish to pounce and if you don't ask you won't know but enjoy watching him grow as puppyhood goes far too quickly.

He does look a nice pup from the pics

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm in no rush to breed him, I'm just really trying to learn as much about these dogs as possible. After all, he's not much more than a baby himself!
