How To Keep A Dog Occupied Whilst You're Out

I have tried a selection of things, from treat dispensers to Kongs, leaving the TV on and 'intelligent dog' toys of the sort that involve the dog moving parts to get to the treat, and it does appear that none of them hit the spot for Molly and she'd rather lie by the door and wait for me to return than play with any of them. This is not helped by the fact that she doesn't eat unless one of us is with her, so treats don't get eaten even if they're in a bowl in front of her.

We leave either TV or radio on just to mask the outdoor sounds and reduce the amount of time that she barks unnecessarily when people come close to the house, but all other attempts to occupy her have been ignored as waiting for her humans is far more important.

We even tried getting someone to walk her when we were out a couple of times, but she tried her hardest to keep them out (even though they'd been introduced and we'd been out for walks together before this was tried) and when they did get in she wouldn't let them put a lead on her, wouldn't leave the house with them and wouldn't even go as far as going out into the garden for a wee without us there. Neighbours have succeeded in getting her to go into the garden, but she won't take treats from them, let them into the house or go anywhere with them.

She's a dog of very strong opinions about what dogs are meant to do when their humans aren't there, quite clearly.

all i will say is i believe in when getting a dog say from medium or large breed then if going out you as the owner be up bright and early and put time, effort into walking the dog, good exersize is a must, now when i got my black saluki x bracken he didnt like being left so with exersize and starting form small to longer ammounts of time left then after a few months he can be left for a fair peroid of time, some people say no longer than four hours for me thats false but depends on amount of exersize before you leave, for over 27 yrs ive been up 3 hours before work no fail to put into my dogs what i hope will be good fun for them as for me,

haha - have you seen the hamster wheels built for cats - they are funny too!

Did you look at the link lurcherman? ;)

no sorry i didnt, the owner of this computer dosnt like me to go on youtube, she says she gets charged and then its costs me lol

I've just had a thought about that ball launcher, but it's a very evil one. Imagine how much havoc could be caused in a house if one of those could be made to launch frisbees?
