when i was in manchester terriers we never got pulled out in the terrier group.how do iggies go on?are they overlooked?

I've wondered that too because you rarely hear of them even making the shortlist in the toygroup....

... but it just led me to think that perhaps the Best of Breed winners recently have not been of the highest quality and the better ones are left behind (because there are some gorgous examples of the breed who have not been picked in recent times....

.... not that I'm saying the judging is 'facey' or 'fixed', and the ones that keep winning are not the best.... :- " o:)

But, come on, there are some lovely iggies out there who could carry the breed into group wins with pride.....

A lot of judges seem to like the 'fluffies'. Can't think why. :- "

when i had mannies a lot of us were so fed up of being overlooked that wed not even bother waiting for the group judging as we knew mannies werent glamorous enough for the big ring. :( a lot of allrounders want a dog thats dripping in coat and looks like its taken ages to prepare.i thought you may have the same problem with iggys as theyre shorthaired and i guess dont look spectacular enough in the big ring to get a second look.mannies like iggys go back hundreds of years and havent been messed about with too much like some breeds so you would think theyve stayed truer to the standard than a lot of the more glam breeds.surely the dogs are supposed to be judged against the standard rather than each other?it used to annoy me that a new breed to the country that had been getting lots of publicity would do well in group judging whereas a lot of our old native breeds would be barely given a second glance. :(

I had a group 4 a few years back with my first Iggie Archie

Was he related to Zoomie? He looks like him!

It just occured - you are talking about Championship level??? Zoomie has actually won numerous Toy Groups at Open show level... must be at least 6 or 7 now, and judges have commented on his sheer elegance!

(Yukky fluffies :x  )

Yep the connection is Robin, CH Rilloby One Man Band his father, Zoomies Grandad

well tbh im talking about any groups at any level.i once took a manchester terrier pup under the late joe braddon who gave me best pup in show(it was only at an open show not a champ!)but at most shows unless i thought we were in with a chnce id not bother stayin cos most judges just gave a mannie a quick glance and tht was it,they werent glam and they didnt have a big following who would give the judge a big cheer at their decision! :- "

fiona youve done extremely well with zoomie to have won so many groups even at open shows. of course we know hes a cracker so the judges obviously can see quality sometimes. :) i just think a lot of judges follow the leader in picking out dogs in the groups at ch sh level and i think sometimes they dont give the less popular breeds any real consideration.and with a lot of these smaller breeds (meaning smaller numerically not size!)they dont even get a look in

It's true - at most shows the toy group is won by a Pom, a Bichon, a Papillion or a Chihuahua.

Anyone ever seen an Affenpinscher win a group? There was a cracking Pug at the NE Scotland Toydog show last weekend and he was only Reserve to a Bichon. The Bichon was flashy but nothing special to me but this Pug was glorious; full of presence and character... and I don't even like the breed!!!! (too squashy faced  )

There aren't many judges like Joe Braddon around now. You could never second guess him, I had some great wins under him with my Borzois and I also had some not so good days but I always felt satisfied with his decision.

Georgie won Special Best Puppy in the toy group back in February.

She got a very pretty tartan rosette

Years ago when I was showing Robin, Ch. Rilloby One Man Band he had Group placings at Champ Shows and many Group wins at Open Shows.

More up to date is Maureen Wade in Ireland with Pansy, Rilloby Miss Teeq who has won many Groups at Championship level and a Best in Show. I am not sure how many but I am sure Jan will know. Jan bred her and she carries my Prefix because Jan had an interest in it at the time. Now she proudly has her own Little Briton Affix.

Ah, Archie, I remember him well ;) that was a few years back, wasn't it :- "

Rilloby Miss Teeq won a group 4 last weekend at the FCI International show in Ireland. That was great but it was in the Hound Group as under FCI Iggies are now in the Hound Group. Oh yes and I am still top Toy breeder in Ireland apparently even though I havent been to teh Emerald Isle in years

That was a great win & very well deserved! She's a lovely bitch :D

Maureen & her husband, whose name escapes me at the moment (which is awful because I've chatted to him often at shows  ) must be thrilled
