hi iv been thinkin about a new pet 4 a while and fancy a whippet can anyone help :)

Hiya, welcome to K9.

It's against forum rules for people to be able to offer you pups on here, although people could pm (private message) you if they wish - however be aware that no-one on here would offer you a pup until you had been around for a bit so they could 'vet' you and make sure you are 100% suitable - obviously if you're genuine that doesn't matter as you won't mind waiting for the right pup to come along. Unfortunately we see too many pups needing to be rehomed because people haven't thought through the commitment.

Good luck - whippets are worth the wait.

My advice would be to do plenty of research to make sure that Whippets are the right breed for you. Then have a think about the type of whippet you would like - show bred, racing, working etc. Even if you have no intention of actually participating in these disciplines, the appearance and traits between the types is quite different.

Once you have decided this get in touch with breeders, ask lots of questions and expect to be asked lots in return. Be prepared to go on a waiting list for the right puppy. It will be worth the wait!

Hi

I too would love a whippet and have done for some time now. Unfortunately my present lifestyle doesn't suit a whippet. and a whippet would be very unhappy living with me :'(

If no one has pm'd re a litter, I'd sell yourself to the breeders on the site a bit more proving that you are suitable for one of their pups. Whippet breeders (from what I've learnt) are very particular who they give their pups to. and whippets have very particular needs - mainly lots of attention - walks, love & company. Sorry if this is wrong advise as I actually don't have a whippet but these are the reasons I can't have one at the moment. I could only do the love and walks but can't do the company - he'd be left at home for too long on his own during the day.

thats a lovely honest answer and will give the O P a good basic insight to the whippet and needs and also what a decent breeder would do in terms of wanting to know them better and "vet"

Ah, I hope one day you are in a position for a wonderful whippet to grace your home. You sound like a very genuine and also sensible person. It sounds like you've got a lot to offer. Fingers crossed you get the opportunity at some point in the future to have a whippet join the family. ;)

I think that you will find it very difficult to find a bitch when someone knows that this is you plan.
