My black bantam(which has only been laying for a short while)has gone broody and shes sitting on at least two eggs...not sure on how many more she'l lay : ...so in about 20 days we'l be having chicks...the kids cant wait ...so now i need to find a home for my cockeral as hes done the deed...so if anyone wants him...hes yours...

I got some fertilised eggs a few years ago......

borrowed an incubator from my brother and carefully tended to them.... instructions/temperature/moisture etc

took photos of each stage-the children at school checking the eggs, holding them up to a light to see what was inside etc....

they hatched, we took great delight in the chicks-fed them-measured them.....compared them at different stages to the size of school milk cartons, yellow pages and a can of beans.....

they grew too big to keep at school.....

I brought them home for a while...... fed them watched them grow some more....felt rather pleased with myself-

most were cockerals!!!!

a farmer took them from me, i thought he'd care for them...

he tended to the cockerals and a fox got the others.....

life's shit isn't it? at times.....
