This morning I met my friend in the park as usual to walk our dogs. We were just talking to another dogwalker when a car came along behind us. Now our local park is the HQ for the council so there is a fair amount of traffic but they always have hazards on & go really really slowly. But this guy didn't have his hazards on. There was a little jack russell running free on the roadway, the dogs owner was quite a way infront of his dog & pretty oblivious to the fact that his dog was very near this car.

All our dogs were still on leads and as the car got closer we moved onto the grass to let it go past, the jack russell was still infront of the car  and its stupid owner wasn't doing much to get it back to him. In the end the  car driver obviously got fed up waiting for the dog to be moved & just accelerated towards it

He didn't have a clue where the dog was & just didn't care if he ran it over or not. Luckily he didn't hit it & the owner got hold of the dog. My Hebe was closest to the edge of the grass/road edge & the car missed her back end by inches

We were all bloody fuming by now as this driver just couldn't care less. I yelled after him but he just drove off into the park.

So we walked up to the HQ offices & the car was parked up outside so we got the reg number. We have now written to the town hall & also emailed the person in charge of the park.

I'm just so cross that my Hebe was almost clipped by a car in a public park whilst she was still on her lead.

The JRs owner was a total prat but in no way did his little dog deserve to have a car driven at it.

We are not going to let this go until we have an answer from the council, I hope the  get a real bo*****ing over this.

This was hours ago & I'm still so damn annoyed

I would be going mad aswell keep on at them if you get no joy. its bad enghe being dogs but what if there had been kids about aswell he didnt care and odviusly took no notce were you were eather. was he in a council car or privat

What an idiot, i hope you get him sorted

He was a thoughtless driver but I'm afraid that dog should not have been off lead if it has such poor recall.

Hope that you have recovered now. Glad that you have reported this idiot to the council - let us know how you get on.

That sounds very dangerous. If you do not have any satisfctory response from the council, can you contact a local newspaper who might run a story on it -highlightling the dangers to users of the public park? That might redden their faces!

Hi,

I've not had any response from the council yet but it is weekend :- so not really expecting one.

TBH the dog wasn't recalled at all, the owner was such a prat that he hadn't even realised his dog was in any danger at all

When he finally got hold of his dog I did say to him, you should have got your dog back on lead but he didn't even put the dog back on lead even then.

Once the car had gone past he just walked off with the dog still loose.

The park is a huge place with one private road running through the middle and most drivers know they have to go real slow with hazards on so there is never usually a problem. This guy was obviously having a bad day...................and I hope it got worse :-
