Hello,

I will be in England (visiting from the US and staying in London) during the championship ped meet Sept 28. I am very interested in attending, can anyone give me more information, or websites to check, or tell me who I could contact for more info...

I would need local directions (and what the closest train stop would be coming from London) and start time.

I am also interested in seeing some non-ped racing if any is going on that weekend, if possible please let me know who I should ask for more info about that.

Thanks for any help,

Cheryl Shomo

Hi Cheryl

The Champs meeting you are asking about is to be held at Morton In Marsh (Gloucester) the local train station is Morton In Marsh and the start time for the racing is 12 noon.

The Secretary and several members of the organising committee use K9 so i'm sure he will be able to give you more info.

Hi Cheryl,

What a small world. We've been here in the UK a month and have another 3 before going back to the US. A very nice whippet club (Heart of England) in the midlands has "adopted" us as well, so we still get our whippet fix while being away from Oliver and Elton. Anyway, we're going to that WCRA race on the 28th and we would be glad to help you out with whatever we can, though we're up in Nottingham (about 2 hours north of London). Depending on when you get to the UK and what your plans are for London, we could meet up with you a day or two early if you wanted to stay with us. We have a car and actually figured out how to get around the country pretty well so..... I'll send you an e-mail directly to discuss. Give Scoche and Pizza a treat for us!

Talk to you soon,

Chris and Jaime

The track is at the town Cricket field - the arrow marks the specific location here. The station is also shown.

Hi Cheryl. You must be the Cheryl with Scoche that has recently finished her WRChX-II. I read it on racing-l. Congratulations :D

I'm not sure what the title means though - Whippet Racing Champion...........something ??? How do you gain titles in the U.S. I have a feeling you accumulate points towards it. Here, we have to win 2 Championship groups to gain a title.

I'm not Cheryl, but I can answer your question for you. Like your racing, it can be fairly complicated to accurately describe how Scoche obtained her WRCHX-11, but I can say she did it by winning a lot of race meets.

At every meet, the winner receives national points. How many points depends on how many whippets were entered. A small meet of 20-29 awards 3 pts to the winning whippet. All whippets run off scratch - dogs and bitches together and a official meet consists of 4 heats or programs. A race meet with 30-39 dogs awards 4 national pts. A meet with 40-49 awards 5 pts to the meet winner. 50-59 whippets awards 6 pts etc. A maximum of 7 - 8 pts per meet is awarded so meets bigger than 70+ whippets still gets only 8 pts. (I don't have a WRA rule book handy so I'm guessing whether the max pts is 7 or 8)

A male whippet must earn 50 national pts to become a WRCHX. For a WRCHX-11 = 100 national pts. WRCHX-111 is 150 national pts.

A whippet bitch, due to time lost on the track for seasons etc, can earn slightly less national pts. They must earn 30 national pts for a WRCHX, 60 pts for a WRCH-11 etc.

Scoche earned all her national pts in open competition against dogs and bitches off of scratch. She is a very beautiful bitch of good type and quite moderately built by our size standard in the US.
