I have just received 3 of my cats new insurance premiums to start on 10th March insurance with Marks and Spencers.

I nearly fell over with shock at how much they have put them up (w00t)

Chime last year £182.28 This year they want £277.32 He has just turned 13 in Dec I have never claimed on his ins

Rinda last year £170.88 This year £219.24. She is 11 and have never claimed for her

Bailey Last year £179.88 This year £248.40 He is 9 and have claimed once for vomitting bug

I do have them on the highest cover up to £7,000 vet bills per condition and it get s reinstated every year and lifelong cover. I have to pay £50 excess plus 20% of the rest of the cost of treatment.

They hiked the prices up last year but as you can see this year is excessive!!!

Just wondered if anyone has insurance with RSPCA as they insure over 9 year olds or has anyone got any other suggestions on any other companies that are good for oldies?

The good thing about Marks is it is a lifelong cover but as you can see the prices are horrendous :rant:

Don't know anything about cat insurance, but PetPlan and AXA will both insure older dogs on a cover-for-life basis, so it would be worth asking them for a quote.

Don't know anything about cat insurance, but PetPlan and AXA will both insure older dogs on a cover-for-life basis, so it would be worth asking them for a quote.

PetPlan won't insure the older ones on life cover but just telephoned Axa and they are MILES cheaper :thumbsup: Thanks for your help Have you ever tried AXA yourself? I wonder what they are like at paying up if need be? I might insure the dog with them too if they are good :thumbsup:

Just googled a review on Axa Ins and they didn't come up good for their car and house ins :unsure: So not so sure what to do now :-

I insured Diesel with M&S when we first got him just over two years ago. I only had to speak to them once when the insurance came up for renewal at the end of the first year. Despite not having claimed they had hiked up the premium. When I called they were both rude and unhelpful. I cancelled the insurance there and then and put him with the same insurer as the others. I had only tried M&S because of recommendations. If they cannot deal with a call, heaven help you if you do have to make a claim. My insurers are NFU. They have been brilliant when you do have to make a claim. Beau has just turned 10 and my excess has gone up to £100 from £50. I do not get a renewal until April so I do not know what will happen to the premium, if anything, as there have been no major increases despite claims. I cannot recommend them highly enough and I have been with them since 2001. Whether they would take on your cats I do not know.

I had decided just to stick with M & S as after checking out a lot of other companies, most of them were not lifelong policies and M & S are. I was going to go with Axa but there online reviews were not good though they are offering a lifelong policy and an excess of 75 where as M & S excess is £50 plus 20% of overall bill (w00t) Last year it was £533 for the 3 of them this year it's £745 (w00t) My other cat has always been with Petplan but they won't take over 9 year olds on a lifelong policy and I have not got around to insuring my dog yet but better think about it soon as she was 5 in Oct :unsure:

The policy that I have for the boys is £4000 per condition/illness per year for life. For example if your pet cut itself on barbed wire you will have up to £4000 for that incident, it later has a temperature that will be the start of another £4000 and so on. Obviously for each incident or condition you will have to pay your excess. I have not yet managed to use that £4000 on any claim I have made. The nearest was a £3000 bill I had for Albus shortly before he passed away and they paid out with no problem. They are very pleasant to deal with and pay promptly. They are also happy to pay directly to your vet should you wish. Being a mutual company you also get your share of any bonus each year when you renew. Even after the £3000 claim for Albus his insurance did not increase. Also if your pet has a condition and you use up your alloted amount for that condition in the first year you will get a new lot of £4000 for that condition when you renew at the start of your second year. I currently pay £17 each for my three dogs. I assume Beau's insurance will increase in April but I have not got his renewal yet. Irrespective I am more than happy to stay with them. I have had less hassle with them in nine years than I had with M&S in one.

I gave them a call and they would only take the 9 yr old on, not the 11yr old or 13 yr old.

The cost for the 9 yr old would be £154.42 per year £50 excess then when he reaches 10 which is next month it would be £100. It would be worth changing him if they don't hike the premium up next year as M & S want £248.40 plus the Excess of £50+20% of overall vet bill :unsure: I got a quote for Megan my dog whilst I was on phone she would be £220 per year :thumbsup:

I've not known them hike premiums up in the time I have been with them.

Thats quite a big jump in the premiums, mine have risen but nowhere near to that price. Healthy pets specialises in pet insurance and offer insurance for life so Leo will always be covered. Hope you find someone thats a bit cheaper.
