This is only our second year racing and we love it, even with all it's problems at the moment. However lots of people have told us that we have joined it at a bad time and it was so much more fun years ago. An experienced racer of 30 years told me that there used to be inter club racing. This sounds interesting and like fun can anyone tell me how this used to work, i.e how many dogs ran, weight groups, was it scratch racing etc.

Thanks in advance

I can only speak of the interclub meets between EA, Stanborough and Harvel, Dave - but they were a lot of fun.

Usually you would have a team of 8 from each club, and although I don't remember the exact weight groups, would be along the lines of n/e 19lb, n/e 23lb, n/e 26lb, n/e 32lb - 2 dogs from each club in each weight group, running for points in three rounds.

There would also be "supporters" racing, where racers could enter dogs NOT in the racing teams - run in the same way as an open.

Invariable, because of the nature of the competition, some clubs would have to "borrow" a runner or two from one of the other clubs just to make up their allocation.

Good times were enjoyed by all - unfortunately, and for the same reason some clubs have dropped Opens, Interclub meetings are very rare these days. Maybe this particular one could be revived. Maybe not.

Thanks Ian that is what I was thinking maybe we could revive this at Harvel and challenge other clubs. There's nothing like being in a team and taking on another to get the blood going. See you Saturday.

Squizz i have spoken with andy. It goes without saying that we would have to consult our race manager david first. Something i failed to mention in my previous posts. Looking forward to his peply on this.
