Took Bailey for a lovely walk this morning around a park (don't normally walk here but wanted a change) and he met up with loads of his friends, having the time of his life. Met a few of my friends and walked around the park. Then we had a lady ask if any of our dogs were males?? I answered yes, in which she replied could you call your dog back as her bitch was in season but was on a lead (going mad and very excited!). I didn't have an issue at all and Bailey and the others came back. Bailey is getting castrated around March time to avoid any accidents!!!! :D

My question - if your dog is in season and you don't wish to risk your bitch getting pregnant, would you walk your dog in a park when you know it will be busy with other dogs?? Or would you just stick to road work??

I am just curious as I have never had a bitch :- "

Common sense would (or should) keep the owner of an in season bitch well away from busy parks but the obvious words were COMMEN SENSE!.

She'd of been the 1st to moan had your dog got to her bitch.

What an iresponsible woman taking her bitch out in season anywhere where there may be any dogs!

not only was she risking her dog being caught by any type of dog but also windong up any males in the area big time - same goes at shows - i wont take a bitch in season to a show but i know people do - i think its very selfish.

just my bit ........! o:)

I understand she needs to walk her dog but after I just thought about little Bailey or any other FULL male out there as it seemed to me to be quite a tease as her dog was clearly up for some fun! :- " Luckily Bailey seemed to just want to play but I wasn't going to test it out, lab x whippet - not sure if that would have been a great mix!!!!

Your right on your comment, she would have been the first to have commented if Bailey had tried to mount her dog!

I am quite laid back, it was only after the more I thought about it, the more I thought she was risking it and it was unfair on her's and other dogs.

At least my thinking was about right - THANK YOU :D

I think she's out of order

I never take my bitches out when they're in season - it's not fair on them, other dogs, other owners or me!! (w00t) I choose not to spey them, therefore it is my responsibility to avoid potential problems.

The other side of the coin is that I expect my neighbours to keep their un-neutered male dogs well away from my property which is totally dog-proofed but you never know ...... where there's a will, there's a way :- "

We often get owners walking their in season bitches in the park, albeit on a lead. I can remember being asked to put my boys on a lead about 3-4 times in the past 6 months. That and having two dogs sniffing all the exciting smells and ignoring recall. It has been a real pain. I haven't yet summoned the courage to tell them that they should be more considerate and walk them in a less public place where loads of people walk their dogs. :- "

This woman wants locking up !!!!

Answer to question.....OFCOURSE NOT !!

I DO WALK BOTH MY BITCHES WHEN THEY ARE IN SEASON I DONT SEE WHY THEY SHOULD BE COOPED UP INDOORS FOR 3 WEEKS PLUS I AM JUST VERY CAREFUL WHEN AND WHERE I TAKE THEM I NEVER GO TO THE PARK I JUST TEND TO TAKE THEM TO PLACES I KNOW THERE WONT BE MANY DOGS OR I STICK TO COUNTRY LANES I WOULD ALSO NEVER SHOW AN IN SEASON BITCH AS I DONT THINK ITS FAIR TO THE DOGS IT JUST BOILS DOWN TO COMMON SENSE

i agree with all your comments i only let my bitch in the garden supervised when shes in season i have quite a big garden and its only for 3 weeks it wont do her any harm not going out for a walk during that time maybe the woman should think about having her spayed if shes not breeding her then she wont have that problem if she is that worried about another dog getting to her bitch she should stay at home its not fair on the other dogs and its obviously stressing her out :(

Were we live there tend to be a lot of dogs loose and most have irresponsible owners so my bitches have to make do with the garden whilst in season.

Ohhh-errrrrrr been along time since I had an entire bitch and I live in a busy village now - used to drive my bitches to somewhere very quiet at night to exercise them when in season - but can't drive now so not sure what'll happen to Bluebell when she comes in - drive me potty I expect   :- "

probably lots of ball games in our minute garden
