Hi all, I am new to the forum. I have concerns about my dog’s sleeping behavior. He used to sleep with us in bed but recently he sleeps in the kitchen instead. He whines and seems unsettled when he comes to our bed and will only stay for a few minutes and went back to the kitchen. I do feel concerned and also a bit sad. Any advise?

If he is comfortable sleeping in the kitchen, is it really a problem? Maybe something like the temperature there is more comfortable?

How old is he, and what breed/type is he?

He is 6 1/2 years old and he is a cockapoo. It is not a problem for him to sleep in the kitchen as he has one of his beds there but he seems lonely to be there alone. Perhaps it is just my imagination. I just want to get advice if it is normal for dogs to change sleeping arrangements suddenly. And should I leave it and let him be? I do miss him though. I know I sounded silly!

Ah, that's good - often the first sign of 'dog dementia' is becoming unsettled at night, but I think we can rule that out. Our dog did go through a phase of sleeping in a different room to us, so it can happen. As Joanne says, as long as he's happy and settled in his chosen sleeping spot, I'd go along with it. It's lovely that you miss him at night though!
