Hi folks,

I'm new to this site and it was trying to find out what kind of dog i have that brought me here!

I got my little Dougal (aka Father Dougal from Father Ted) a year ago now after seeing an ad on adtrader for free puppie to a good home. The owner couldn't tell me what kind of dog hers was never mind the daddy. to be honest I don't think she really cared:( I just wanted a wee guy to have some fun with. My last dog was ne

Lemme know what you guys think...........:Darly 16 when he died 3 years ago and I just decided the time was right. So on the way home I took my new friend to meet my dad, his first words to me were "he's a blue and definatley got Greyhound in him" My dad has been a Bookie at shawfield dog track for over 40 years now so I thought he must have a good idea!

He's smaller than a greyhound but can fly like the wind when let off the lead. He also has a lot of the characteristics that i've read about on this forum!

As this is my first time I'm not sure how to post a pic. but I'll keep trying to get it right!!

Thanks!

hello and welcome to k9 ,as for Dougal hes soo gorguse

He's got whippet or greyhound in him somewhere (w00t)

Nice little chap :huggles:

The ears give it away, either whippet or greyhound certainly, lovely dog :D

yep, think he's got a bit chucked in the mix somewhere

yep....

i think Whippet is visible in him...

and i think i am seeing Weimeraner too...

and if so, there are other breeds in there too (long hair etc)

there is a blood test you can do at your vets now, to determine the background of your dog.

That would be so so cool if the Vet could do that! I must look into it..... If I ever do I'll update you!

sorry my post looks a bit strange, the words all got mixed up somehow!

Thanks for all your suggestions so far :D

I would say he definitely has some Whippet in him. He looks to me Whippet size, am I right? His body is mor Whippet than greyhound shape.

But you cannot have DNA test for what breed the dog is. You can test if there is a suggestion that a pedigree is not correct. There were cases where the sire listed was a top winning import, when in fact the litter was sired by another dog. That is possible to prove/disprove by DNA test. However if the two possible sires were related then the test may not be conclusive. There is no simple way to say this group of genes makes dog a Whippet while another genes are only found only in Great Dane :)

He looks great - LOVE his whippety ears  And interesting that he runs like the wind. Good luck with your lovely boy

He deifintely has whippet in him....but that tail is very labrador like perhaps? I wonder if he is a whippet/labrador (and something else) cross?
