Would love to hear sensible only !!!!!!!!!views ------on if it is a good or bad thing to have censorship on certain subjects that are to say the least controversial--- and threads being locked ---as it spoils it for all who never hear of some of the indiscretions that are often privy to others ---

i myself think the ones who dont use their own names to post should have this privlige taken away and not be allowed to post --- only my veiws ---STEVE

ps reason for posting its gone very quiet on here over last two days --other sites must benefit from this ----

i think we we need the controversial subjects

Hi

Although I was not a contributor on the recent posts I was following them and I was disappointed when they were removed. On the whole there were some interesting and valid points of veiw expressed. It is a shame when some people feel they have to attack people rather than ideas but surely it would be better to just remove the offending posts rather than remove a whole thread. If the whole thread is removed it means that in a way the abusive people win because you get into a controversial subject and people get interested enough to express their opinions and all they have to do is be abusive and the whole subject is lost because people retire back into their shells.

I would hate to see this forum degenerate into one of those boring places where the only acceptable posts are those where everyone is back slapping everyone else or posts that have three pages of "Me Too".

We are new comers to whippet racing and we love it :D but it like everything else has it problems and it can only be a good thing for people to be able to have frank and open dicussion.

All the best

Marie and Graham

I suppose if you are going to have moderators on a site like this, then you have to accept that at some point in time they will use their discretion and lock threads etc. If they didn't, then they would be dammed for that too. It sounds like a case of 'Dammed if they do and dammed if they don't!!' I wouldn't personally like the responsibility.

Speaking as someone who has only been around racing for a short time you do often wonder why some people react the way they do to certain threads, so it is interesting to hear some of the history, although it is only ever one person's point of view :D

I don't think there is anything wrong with healthy discussion and a bit of banter, but I object to bitter and twisted post's. There's controversy everywhere in racing, don't think we could ever escape from it.

As for people posting under a different name, I'm sure they must get a sad kick from watching others try and guess, perhaps the less fuss we make the less kick's they might get.

Chris

its a hard one

controversial subjects are usually the ones people have real passion about , on both sides and it does often get personal which is such a shame .

yes some more delicate matters are harder than others to stay focused on but it can be done , and i agree that only the bad post that are directed to someone personally should be removed not the whole thread .

Sharon :D

edited to say id hate to be a moderator too

I think some of the recent threads have had very valid points in between the bitching and back stabbing.

Only the personal posts should be removed

As for posting under a different name that is bullying and hypocritical

If you cant say something straight out under your own identity then dont bother.

Life is too short to make other peoples lives hell get on with your own and remember it aint a dress rehearsal

Healthy debate and banter is good fun and what most of us are on here to participate in :)

Hi

Another forum I am on has got very heavily moderated recently. Closing and removing posts for what seem silly reasons.

it was a great forum but is getting quieter by the day. Anyone who is posting is being so polite and fluffy it is ridiculas.

I would hate this one to go the same way. I do feel there are certain people who are very rude in the way they voice a opinion to be honest I just ignore those posts and dont rise to the bate. If every one did the same think they would stop eventually.

I agree though that you do need a certain amount of moderation and you cant please everyone. I am quite broad minded and not easily upset but I know others are more sensative.

Hope that makes sense lol

Wendy

I like a good debate but I do loose interest when slanging matches start. I agree with Rob, mods are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

It was a shame to lose an interesting topic. :( and it also a shame when folk wont sign there real name. :( The good thing is,whatever they say holds no credit without their real name. :D Karen

I think the topic started with slanderous comments and if they only took those kind of posts off they would only of been left a couple of replies but to what :- " if know what I mean :teehee:

A lot of interesting topics have been closed or deleted in the past as some members myself included have gone off topic with slagging match's ... the later topic been the same, i was very upset yesterday :( a certain k9 member insinuated i was stealing from the nnwrf funds esp after all the trouble i have had the past month to retrieve what was missing ... i how ever might be to blame for the topic been deleted as i asked to have a few post removed

Please dont think I was refering to you Dee in any way, I just think its a shame that certain people seem to deliberately turn a thread abusive with little or no provecation (again Dee I am not refering to you or Gary). I sometimes think they do it just to get a thread removed!!

I don't think that your answer was aimed at me ....i just know i have contributed to some the the off topic posts in here from time to time ...you thing i would learn to bite my lip now after all this time ...

tbh when i saw the remark that was made about you being accused of theft i was quite shocked. this sort of personal libel isnt needed or called for and when people do this sort of thing theyre are being silly in that they are leaving themselves open to litigation which can be quite an expensive way of having a go at someone. ;) healthy debate is good after all our forefathers died so we could have free speech, theres still places in the world dont forget where people are terrified of voicing their opinions so i for one take freedom of speech quite seriously.yes sometimes it can get out of hand and when passions and strongly held beliefs are held then the mods do need to step in and calm things down by removing some posts, but i dont think anything is served by whole threads being removed.its like being cut off in mid stride so to speak.you still have points you want to make and cant cos its gone!it can be quite frustrating!

Well put Kris  I don't want to embarrass Dee, but I can vouch for how honest Dee is, I made a over payment of £50 to her a few months ago without me realising it and 3 weeks later she brought this to my attention :b

You have my full respect and trust.
