I have it my living room.....................Can't see it being a problem. We have a similar type flooring in the kitchen(it is a large room). There are occasions when after a long run up through the hall and then kitchen, you get a whippet over-shoot with Tom an Jerry legs and a crash into the wall (w00t)

Thanks,i don't want to have our whippet hurting hurting itself because of our "skiddy" floor!

Just trying to get lots of info and help before we get one.

cheers and happy new year to all.

phill.

hello phil welcome to k9  i have laminated flooring throughout my house and the only prob i get is when they charge down the stairs and skid the lenght of the passage then come to a hault when they bang into the front door lol  but its much easyer to keep clean espesailly when you've got 2dogs trapsing god knows what through the house

I have a 3 legged whippet x, she manages just fine playing and racing around on my laminate floors with my JRT.

we have vynal flooring like l;aminat all through the houes and we have found all the whippets are fine on it even indy when she haed brocken legs was fine charging about on it. the biger greyhounds can some times fined it a problem but I got some pad stuff from pets at home thats stoped the slipping till they got uesd to it and they were all adult dogs when they came aswell.

The only problem with the whippeys was ninny she was that used to sold floors she didnt like grass at first cos it tickeld her feet lol

Welcome to k9 Phil glad to see you here :D

We have laminate too and the dogs are fine with it, to be honest I think carpet would be a bit of a pain really much harder to keep clean with 4 whippets in the house especially after a trip to the woods

By the way if you can wait until September after looking on here you are very strong :D

Yes we have laminate too, its ok if you behave but you can end up in a heap if rush about too much

Hi Phil welcome to the site

We have laminated floors and my whippets and irish setter pup are fine on it we do have some good impressions of Bambi by my greyhound William but seeing as he is that clumsy that he would fall over a match stick on the floor . He is ok if he goes slowly but when he gets excited and starts rushing about he tends to slip but touch wood has never hurt himself

We have laminate floor and vinyl flooring down too, in our downstairs rooms. I break up the "skiddy areas" by putting down small, cheap MACHINE WASHABLE floor mats!! :D :D so they can just get slung in the washing machine every so often. but it stops them galloping and not being able to stop themselves from running, before they hit a door.

Years ago, I did know a beautiful dog (not a whippy) that broke its neck and died, slipping on a wet floor, so I suppose that's prompted me to be a bit careful.

we have hard wood floors downstairs and the whippets are fine walking and running about on it,but our 10 year old lurcher struggles getting up from laying on it because she as no grip bless her :b

how exiting, welcome and do keep us posted on the new arrival. Happy new year  jan

Thank you all so much for the kind welcome :D

We have been reading lots of the topics!

Great to see so much help is at hand,We should be ok with the laminate floor and cheers for your help.

The pics on here are great and YES, Lesley IF we can last until September we will indeed be of strong willpower :D

We have been to quite a few shows now and have spoken to owners/breeders to get as much info as possible. We would like a black & white or fawn or fawn/white or blue Dog or a fawn brindle!

My sister has a rescue greyhound which is sweet.

We also have 2 cats which get on well with dogs.

HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!

We will keep you posted and ask for advice,Thanks.

Welcome to K9

Ive laminated flooring down in the hall and kitchen and its great for keeping clean ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

However if they all come charging in ( or charging out for that matter :- " ) they can skid a bit , One of my dogs has recentley under gone a major neck/back op ( see woody post) and Ive put down several mats for him as he couldnt keep his feet

Good luck in your search for a whippy pup

Jackie and the Mulcairs

Again,Thanks for the warm welcome :)

As you say the laminate is great to keep clean,But i can see the hazards it could cause for the dog.

The rugs/mats suggestion is a great idea as we're not a lover of carpets :- "

We are having a new kitchen and bathroom fitted in a while,That's why we want to leave getting a whippet pup until all that work is done first :( We can't wait! And hope to get it for my 44 birthday in Sept.

As i said before not to fussy what colour pup! We have been to crufts,Blackpool,Grimsagh shows and asked loads of questions.

Thanks again,

Phill.
