Beagle was one of the first breeds to come to my mind too. He's very hound-like, stubborn, a natural tracker, but very quiet.

The DNA testing is still in the infancy stages I think, but it's quite interesting. I'm sending another sample to a different labs to compare the results.

Save your money or give it to a small animal charity and just enjoy your lovely rescue.

It is more that to get any meaningful result they would have to do more than the dozen or so markers; it would have to be much more expensive than what is commercially acceptable.

Some X breds are generation after generation crossbreds; if you could do their pedigree there may not be many so called "pure bred" dogs in them.

Not that I am saying it is the case with your dog :)

I remember reading in a monthly dog magazine about these DNA tests being put to the test by sending in a sample from a known cross. The results back were laughable! I wouldn't bother. I'd go with Seraphina's guess.

The main reason I’m doing the DNA testing is so that I can provide the best training/lifestyle for him based on breed. Certain breeds excel in certain areas. If I had a border collie, I’d make sure it had opportunities to herd as that’s an area where it excels.

I still get think my little guy has some hound in him as he has the “what’s in it for me” attitude that group is known for. I’ll let you know how the results of the next test!
