that are particulary cuddly and affectionate?

Or are most like that?

I've had one whippet in the past which was like a cat in that she was self-obsessed, and another that was mega cuddly and would jump into my arms all the time

I'm on the lookout for a new bitch and want a cuddly one! :p

thanks Alf

I think they are usually cuddle monsters.... if one of my family dares to sit still for more than a few seconds the they will be suffocated by a heap of whippets coming for a snuggle :)

I think a cuddle-less whippet is the exception to the rule ;) I think all sighthounds want cuddles. I've had two whippets and an afghan who were/ are much more cuddly than my weimaraner/ lab cross or collies.

Bluebell is the cuddliest little beast I've ever met :D

If you want a cuddly whippet get a male! The girls are a little too smart, and a little too calculating and they add up what they expect from you in return for their affection given to you. They are cat like, aloof, and practical.

The boys on the other hand, seem to have a slightly lower IQ -- in the two digits -- and their role in life is to find someone who will love them to death and they can love back unreservedly. As one of those persons wanting unequivocal love rather than the caculated, doled out variety the girls give, we have ended up with a good crowd of boys who dote on us, and drown us in attention, giving, and sopping up, all the affection that is on offer. A whippet boy is the most loveable dog on the face of the earth -- while his litter sister is probably trying to figure out six ways to get you to part with your brass buying her presents to secure her love for you.

Well i've got three girls and they are all wanting

to be cuddled all the time. The minute you sit down

they are there. And sometimes when your standing

they will leap up into my arms. Anytime is cuddle

time with them :)

I should add that none of my girls are related

in any way and all have different breeding.

I know what you mean, one of my beddy crosses is a law unto herself, only comes near you when there is something in it for her, either food or she wants to be under the duvet. She was my first dog of my own and I desperatly wanted her to be a loving companion, she is but in her own independant way - Try bribery, I find cheese works well and buttered toat is her particular favourite. Yet my other of the same breed borders on invsive she's that cuddly, she isn't happy unless she on one of our laps and sleeps curled up in my OH's arms at night.

I don't think there's any way of knowing when they are a puppy as their porsonalities are not developed yet. Why don't you try looking at some rescue whippets, there's quite a few about. When you rescue a dog you get a really deep bond as they know their onto a good thing and don't want to loose it. My rescue boys are utterly devoted to me, more so than any other dog I've had. Also as they are that little bit older they'll have developed their posonality and you'll be able to tell if the dog is cuddly or aloof. Its such a worthwhile thing to do. I think there is a quite young male whippet at the dogs trust at the mo' go take a look he might turn out to be your new best friend :D

Peat my last boy adored me ( I have to say he was not the brightest penny in the wishingwell!).

Toddy on the other hand is still a bit aloof after 3 weeks with us (he is 7 months). This is probably due to the fact that he cannot sit still for more than 5 minutes at a time. He is exceptionally smart for a male whippet. In fact the smartest whippet I have met. He also has a lot to learn about his position in the pack and you can see him testing the boundaries. He does love cuddles but is not as adoring as Peat. For some reason my 22 year old student son is the object of his adoration. Probably because he does not apply all the rules that I do.

I also have 3 girls. Lilly is really loving and adoring and always wants attention but is a a bit wary of cuddles. She came to me when she was 4 and had lived outside on a farm. She does however like have her tummy rubbed ( for that service, I can have 10 minutes of her time) :)

My rescues: Foxy loves a cuddle but Misty her daughter does not..............

I suppose that it is just the luck of the draw.

Are you looking for a puppy or an older whippet? Obviously, starting with a puppy makes the bonding much quicker. A rescue or preloved dog can have a lot of issues to overcome before trust is established and cuddles are welcomed. Some of my rescues and preloved dogs have taken over a year to be comfortable with cuddles.

I would say from experience that I find the less dominant whippet male or female to be more affectionate.

thanks folks

looking for a pup

I guess you pays your money and takes your chances

I have a young family so it has to work out.........
