Yes my dog on Apoquel but hes now having immune therapy injections so we won't know if it works for 6 months!

A lot of dogs run into allergies and itches when being fed a grain loaded un-natural diet. There are also a huge amount of our pets that manage very well with this type of modern day, convenient food.
There are a lot who have been transitioned onto a natural raw food diet, who's itches and allergies have disappeared and life becomes more normal for everyone.:)
If you should consider a natural raw food trial diet, there are plenty of us here to help you along. It is quiet harmless and may help you with a natural solution.
@JoanneF has suggested colostrum. I have never used this, and I have never needed to. It sounds as if it's a possibility and worth a try.
I would look for fresh raw colostrum (this may be like gold dust though) from goats or cows. It can be frozen without loosing it's benefits.

I always recommend a super little book that helps with the understanding and guidance of raw feeding. It is easy to read and understand. "Honeys Natural Feeding Handbook for Dogs", it can be found on their site and posted for FREE or purchased from ebay or Amazon for about £3

It must be awful for both you and your dog to have this itchy problem, I hope you can find a natural and chemical free remedy.

Thank you. He is on a grain free gluten free diet and limited ingredients. So its not the food. We had blood tests done to narrow it down and its definitely pollen, trees and plants unfortunately. Its a long slow process but hopefully there will be a light at the end of the tunnel

Hello DebsBlueshep.
Actually My reply was for @EmmanuelH17 who started this post but if it can help you too or anyone else, then it has been worthwhile.

pollen, trees and plants

Sorry, may have said this already - but do you wipe him with a wet cloth after walks? If not, try that.

And the person I know who uses colostrum does it for plant allergies.

Yes wipe him every time when he gets back.
Yes i did look that up. What is it exactly? I mean it said something about milk substitute i think or something when animals are young?

Yes read that was correct. But Blue has strong allergies and may not work . I might try later on but am trying so many things atm want to try one thing at a time lol to see if they work.
Thanks for your advice

Mabel’s also on apoquel. She was in one helluva emotional state when we first got her. That was in the autumn of 2019 so I wouldn’t have thought that it was a reaction to pollen. Her heavy and persistent itching was just one of several problems from which she was suffering at the time. Amongst all the bits and pieces that came with her was a strip of apoquel tablets with a note to administer should she get stressed out by itching. The itching stopped almost within hours of the first tablet. Now, although they’re not cheap, I buy a prescription for pollen time and give her half a tablet with her breakfast. We’ve had no heavy bouts of itching but she’s now a happy settled whippet. Not sure whether that gas anything to do with it. She’s been raw fed for about three years.

She does demonstrate that she doesn’t wear knickers.

Sorry I forgot. Would colostrum benefit Mabel as opposed to apoquel?

Beautiful clear underneath-skin, RGC.

Frequently there is more than one cause to itchiness. Which means that reducing the stress, taking into account the time of year (how badly many of us react to certain pollens) and allowing the immune system to recalibrate itself are just as important as medication.

Thanks, Hemlock. reassurance much appreciated.

Well unfortunately poor blue is on 2 Apoquel a day now as hes so itchy and wearing the head collar all night and in day with breaks if he stops itching as hes on those immune therapy injections and its so stressful as he's trying to get his body to accept the allergens... Long process. Your lucky your lovely doggie is ok now. Very lucky. I wish poor blue was less itchy

I haven`t found anything that works better than apoquel with our 4year old Lab. But don`t like the idea of him being on it longterm, would love a natural solution!
We only give Mabel her half Apoquel tablet on a daily basis when we note her persistent itching (early Spring) and stop it circa October/November. Haven’t noticed any adverse effects. This has been the regime for four years - she was seven last month. It’s seems to be a question of catching the itching in time before it gets out of hand. If there were a natural solution I’d jump on it straightaway but I don’t want to mess her around. As I said, she’s a very happy and settled whippet and I’d rather not rock the boat.
