I think he was doing a good job myself, if he had stumbled across a cruelty case and managed to rescue a dog, wouldn't we all be singing his praises?Just a thought :- "

Absolutely, I didn't mind him asking me - which was why I pointed out Tiny's feet too because he hadn't seen them, and it's nice to know you're doing the right thing!

It just seemed a bit odd, but then, if I had been mistreating them then it could have been stopped then. Personally I wouldn't mind 'spot checks' now and then. I mean 'normal' people stop me in the street and say "your dogs are too thin" or "why has it got bald bits" - so why not an RSPCA inspector?

I've heard lots of bad stuff recently about the RSPCA, but they do a lot of good too.

Incidentally, does anyone know how to treat bald bits caused by mange - they are on his knees and feet. Nothing seems to be working and they dry out and crack. I've used fuciderm, E45 and calendula cream. E45 is the best at stopping crackng but the hair just won't grow back. The vet wants to do some puncture biopsies to see if the hair follicles are dead, but I'm reluctant to do that because Tiny takes an incredibly long time to heal.

Don't know if you can see his bald bits in this photo, they are on his knee, the other leg is worse.

Yes i can see the baldy bits, my bitch had a few a while ago, i had her to the vets, he took some scrapings, all was well, he gave me some shampoo, which cleared her up, you say tiny takes a long time to heal, but she isnt going to get better on her own i dont think, so i would go back to your vet

good luck

When I first had TJ, all the spaces between the bones in his tail were bald. Don't know why but I rubbed Vitamin E oil on the his tail twice daily and within a couple of weeks the hair had all grown back.

The other thing I have used to good effect on Coco who has iatrogenic Cushings symptoms from the steroid treatment she has is Stop Itch (dried herbs not the liquid) from Wendals Herbs. That worked a treat on her!!!

Apparently cornucresine (sp?) hoof ointment is great for re-growing hair, Nana's tail has baldy patches, but being Nana being white, and cornucresine being black we ended up in a terrible mess, and I decided she looked better without the hair than with the ointment so I gave up before it could have an effect, but with Tiny being black anyway............

I shall now have a go with liverine and vit e

Doesn't hoof ointment stink? Or am I thinking or something else? (w00t)

Hmm its a strange one...I say the guy was good for checking the dogs out. But at the same time it is a little bit embarrasing if your out walking your dogs an they just stop you.

Typical when you dont want there opinion there there to give it, ring them out on a cruelty case and they cant attend
Glad he said your dogs where ok Claire

I think we really need to separate The Institution from the individual, often very kind and caring people, doing a heartbreaking job (I could not do it).

I have to admit if an inspector would stop me on the street, it would definitely get my hackles up :b . But many people do not understand their dogs enough to notice problems. Or maybe if something like the loss of hair occurs gradually people do not see it as a problem until the infestation gets very bad.

It wouldt bother me if I was stopped by a Inspector, I would probably bore them to death and they would wish they hadnt bothered :- "

As for all the flack that the RSPCA get - I volunteered for them for 4 years a while back and would never give them any money or time now; I did know of healthy puppies being PTS because a litter had been 'too large' :( I also witessed an Inspector put a healthy rabbit to sleep becase he said it had a broken back - when actually it was more likely to have been suffering from being kept in a cramped hutch all of it's miserable life. No vet opinion, just the word of a ex trumpet player in the army to end a life. They didnt like it when I complained about them - but nothing got done about it. Most of the inspectors do work very hard and do some fantastic work but I saw enough to loose faith in them. :(

Given how disgrutled most people get about paying taxes for things like the NHS -

Do people get disgruntled about paying taxes for NHS??

I think we should pay more taxes for the NHS and get it out of the state its in at the moment.

I wasn't bothered really, just rather surprised! Although if he saw Tiny now he might not have passed his as fit!! :(

Max knocked him down and raked his claws down his side (Max was playing, but Tiny was still half asleep). At first it came up like blood blisters on his side as claw marks, but then on Friday, his whole side filled with blood - like a giant red blister.

Obviously we trundled off to the vet again, and now it is looking a lot better, the blood is being reabsorbed but he has a whopping bruise. It goes all the way from half way down his left hand side, underneath his tummy and out the other side and is about a hand length wide. It ranges from black, to purple and bright red!! Poor baby :huggles: , he's been ever so sore!!!
